CCTV’s New Year Gala Involved in Four Plagiarisms

Predictably, the 2012 China Central Television’s (CCTV)
New Year Gala received bad reviews.
People are discussing the several big stars, who quit the gala,
and the off-key song in the show.
Recently, netizens revealed that CCTV’s gala was involved
in four plagiarisms.
Therefore Guo Degang who never had the chance to appear
in the gala got a chance “indirectly” this time.

Shortly after the 2012 CCTV New Year Gala, some netizens
revealed on a Microblog about possible plagiarism.
The sketch, ‘Interview in a Supermarket’, starring
Guo Donglin, ‘
might have plagiarized the sketch of a Japanese
comedy group UNJASH, called Interview for a Job.
It’s similarities spanned from design and structure
to punch lines.

Both “Interview in a Supermarket” and “Interview for a Job”
describe a supermarket manager.
In these sketches, the manager mistook an interviewee for
a thief.
In both sketches, the interviewees had five year’s work
experience and dreamed of opening up a supermarket.

Guo Donglin replied to the suspicion: You should ask CCTV
about what’s going on.

A singer, Han Geng, was also involved in a plagiarism
scandal.
His performance fighting with the Nien beast, with nunchaku
skills, and dazzling stage design, was eye-catching.

Netizens discovered Han Geng’s performance was 90% like
American singer Beyonce’s new song “Run the World.”
Some netizens shared a video of “Light and Shadow Dance”
from a Japanese variety show.
This video was also similar to which Han Geng’s
performance.

Guo Degang, a crosstalk performer was never allowed
to appear in CCTV’s New Year Gala.
However, Guo got a chance “indirectly” this time.

The comedy dialogue performed by Feng Gong and Niu Li,
“Drive for Love”, contained plagiarism.
In the dialogue, Feng asked, “are you sick,” and Niu replied,
“do you have medicine?”
This dialogue was found to originate from a cross-talk
by Guo and Yu Qian.

“Are you sick? Do you have medicine? How much do you need?
As much as you have? As much as you need?”

Many netizens felt angry with CCTV’s New Year gala,
costing 200 million RMB.
It contained two pieces which were involved in severe
plagiarism.
They called for a boycott of “CCTV gala’s second-hand
performance!”

Some netizens highlighted whether UNJASH required CCTV
to pay the large copyright royalties for its sketch.
What will CCTV do? How embarrassing it would be to go
to court?

An Southern Metropolis Daily article by Zhu Yonghua, said
that the whole CCTV’s gala relied on the lighting.
It is more likely to be an imagery project which bluffs people.

CCTV’s gala has been involved in fraud before. There are
always rumors that singers are only mouthing the words.
Even the congratulatory letter read by the emcees were
revealed by netizens to be faked.

Ye Kuangzheng, Chinese poet and literary critic, discovered
that the emcees in this year’s gala had no confidence.
They had the worst performance ever.

Ye Kuangzheng: “They didn’t even believe in their own
words.
They can no longer have the passion to influence the audience
in this way.
If you watch them, you will feel the insincerity from
their words.”

An article from “RedNet” said that most scripts for CCTV’s
gala were composed by several “hack writers.”
They do not only control performers, but also monopolize
the production of some programs.
The repeating plagiarism and frauds are due to these
hack writers having lost all creativity.
