Girl in Shifang County blocks police, Netizens moved

On July 2nd, students and citizens in Sichuan Shifang County
paraded on the street,
protesting against the construction of a highly toxic
molybdenum-copper smelting factory.
The police used tear gas and shock bombs to disperse
the crowd, injuring many, including seniors, women and children.

On Tuesday, “Shifang” remained the most popular search
word on Sina Weibo.
Surprisingly, mainland Internet censorship did not prevent
netizens from researching the protest.

One picture of a girl opening up her arms in an attempt
to stop Shifang police was especially attention grabbing.
This picture was passed around nearly 15,000 times that
day, and received more than 2,800 responses.
Many netizens were moved, some even had strong words
of praise, saying, “This is last night’s most beautiful and courageous scene.
With the baton and guns, she opens her arms up.

There is a trace of fear in her eyes.
It is that realistic.”
Some also said, “if Chinese people can be as courageous
as her, then their servility would be subverted,
the people would awaken, and the nationality would be reborn.”
Some even said this picture is worthy of a Pulitzer prize.

Sino-Foreign Alliances Formed to Investigate Li Wangyang’s death

It has been nearly a month since the baffling death of Human
rights activist Li Wangyang took place.
Currently, the Chinese Regime has not announced Li’s cause
of death.
On July 2nd, Chinese and foreign lawyers as well as rights
activists jointly set up a “Law and Civil Support Group,”
urging the Chinese Communist Party to investigate the cause
of Li Wangyang’s death, and to provide his family with legal aid.

More than 160 people joined the day the support group
was formed.
These members from Mainland China, United States, Sweden,
Spain and other areas expressed performance of five tasks,
including establishing an independent investigative team;
investigating Li Wangyang’s cause of death thoroughly;
holding those accountable responsible;
compensating accordingly;
and urging Hunan to lift the house arrest
and monitoring of Li’s family members and friends.

According to Radio Free Asia, support group member Hu Jia
expresses that Li Wangyang’s death is not just a problem for Hunan,
but has affected the level of the Central Politics
and Law Committee.
Hu Jia says that the CCP faces great pressure
to maintain stability before the 18th People’s Congress.
Any rights activists could become the next Li Wangyang,
hence it is essential to prevent these things from spreading continuously,
and one must not leave the
Li Wangyang affair unresolved.

Li Wangyang, known as the Tough Guy of June 4th,
was discovered to be hung to death at a local hospital.
The CCP announced it a suicide, but due to the suspicious
nature of his death, more than 250,000 Hong Kong citizens rallied.
Afterwards, police immediately controlled Li Wangyang’s
family members, plus friend Zhu Chengzhi.
They have been out of touch ever since.

U.S. media publishes first-ever Bo Xilai affair documentary

Although it has been months since the CCP encountered its
most politically dangerous scandal in 20 years, the results
have not been announced officially, and the Bo Xilai scandal
remains the most focused topic amongst foreign press.
On July 3rd, Wall Street Journal posted an 18 minute-long
video analyzing how this event will change people’s discussions on the future direction of China.
