Wen Jiabao Shows Relaxed Mind Responding to Attacks

At the critical moment ahead of the 18th National Congress,

Wen Jiabao has shown a completely different manner from
other leaders of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Besides regular political work, Wen also unofficially visited
universities to make speeches, and even enjoyed a friendly basketball match one week ago.
Some remarked that Wen was striving for his right
to speak after stepping down.
However, insiders said that those acts manifested that Wen
had finally relaxed his mind from his previous gloomy mood.

On October 8th, China Sports Daily reported on
its front page the news that
Wen had enjoyed playing basketball with retired
basketball players and fans at the court of the State General Administration of Sport.
As the power struggle inside the CCP becomes white-hot,
Wen’s unrestrained manner has drawn a great deal of attention from outsiders.

According to a report of some Hong Kong media on
October 11th,
Wen’s relaxation resulted from a release of gloom
which had haunted his mind for a long time.
Insiders revealed that, Wen Jiabao clarified himself
against all serious criticisms and personal attacks
during the inner-party democratic consultation of
the State Council on August 30th.

During the consultation, Wen Jiabao presented
six important points.
Firstly, he had never made any personal decision against
the CCP Central Committee’s resolutions at any time.
Secondly, he had no personal ambition in politics and no
attachment to the position of premier or politburo standing committee membership.
Thirdly, on the issue of political reform, he had never made
statements against the party’s routes, principles or resolutions.
Fourthly, he never attempted to suppress different opinions
or abused his power inside the State Council.
Fifth, he never claimed that he had done a perfect job
as the premier and he never intentionally tried to cover up his mistakes in his job.
Sixth, he had never asked for special treatment of himself
or of his family members.
For the last point, Wen requested the CCP leader group to
draw a clear conclusion through investigation.

(Lan Shu, political commentator):”From Wen Jiabao’s six
points we can see that he had been under serious attack from his opponents inside the CCP.
The critical commentaries include that Wen had acted
inconsistently with the CCP Central Committee’s routes or his family members had corruption problems.
There is no doubt that those who attacked Wen are
of the same group who had attempted to protect Bo Xilai
after the inner-party power struggle became more intensive
since this year.”

Lan Shu also pointed out that, Wen Jiabao was the first
person who demanded serious punishment against Bo Xilai,
therefore he had become the biggest target of Bo’s
supporters from the “Blood Debt Faction”.

A recent article from boxun.com revealed that, Bo Xilai had
kept in touch with various groups of leftists, rightists and
centrists in a comprehensive and organized way
to win their support.
Besides that, he had built a team of over 200 professional
writers as the core of his media network project.
In the past several years, Bo had collected complete
materials of other CCP leaders through his intelligence network under the support of the Politics and Law system.
Since 2007, Bo had aggressively attacked Wen
through employed writers and controlled media.
The attack against Wen was regarded as practice for
larger-scale media propaganda in the future.

(Zhang Tianliang, Professor from George Mason University):
”From the trial of Gu Kailai, there was a clear signal of separating Gu’s case from Bo Xilai’s case.
This provided the ‘Blood Debt Faction’ an opportunity
to fight back.
Most remarks from outsiders also believed that would happen.

Under such conditions, it is necessary for Wen to
make a clear response to all the attacks against him.”

Zhang Tianliang, political commentator and
visiting professor of George Mason University,
also remarked that the CCP leaders had reached
an agreement this May that
Bo Xilai would not be involved in Wang Lijun and Gu Kailai’s
case and that Zhou Yongkang would be able to retire smoothly.
However, the “Blood Debt Faction” led by Zhou later
aggressively counterattacked and even forced Xi Jinping to mysteriously disappear for 14 days.
After that, Xi threatened to give up his position of the next
CCP leader, which finally led to a compromised agreement to “punish Bo in a serious way”.

As the CCP’s premier, Wen Jiabao always seems to be
struggling.
Wen shed his tears and wherever natural
disasters or human problems take place.
He also regularly talked about political reform and
rehabilitation of victims of June Fourth Incident both inside and outside China.
However, he was just unable to realize those words.

Lan Shu concluded that, although Wen Jiabao really wanted
to serve his country,
he ended up with a strong will but not enough power to realize
his words under the restriction of the CCP’s evil regime.
