Two Seeds Sowed At Bo Xilai Trial

The recent trial of Bo Xilai, ex-Party chief of the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) in Chongqing, ended.
In the closing statement, Bo said he is now being jailed,
and is only left with the rest of his life to spend.
Analysts think this suggests that Bo has known that
he would not be sentenced to death.
Observers point out there were two seeds sowed by
the CCP authorities during the trial.
They have aroused public attention and speculation
regarding Bo’s core crimes.

The Bo Xilai trial in Jinan ended on August 26.
Bo was taken back to Beijing for detention on the same day.
At the five-day trial, Bo denied all charges.

He has always replied to key allegations with remarks
such as “I can’t remember” or “No.”
As testimony regarding his wife, Gu Kailai, and of others,
he has simply used curse words as replies.

Bo revealed that Gu Kailai is taking drugs, saying Gu has
“gone mad,” and her testimony is “ridiculous and incredible.”
Bo alleged that he is unaware that his son, Bo Guagua,
is studying and squandering overseas.
Bo exposed his adultery, which led to a 10-year long
alienation of affection between himself and his wife.
The dramatic trial of Bo has made an enjoyable show
to public audiences who like to watch movies.

Bo even labeled himself a cuckold.

He alleged that the real reason behind Wang Lijun’s
fleeing into the US consulate was due to Wang’s
inextricably falling in love with Gu Kailai.
In the morning trial, the prosecutor stated that the facts
of Bo’s crimes are clear, with sufficient evidence.
Bo should be given heavy punishment as he denied guilt.

However, in his closing statements, Bo said, “I was
informed that this matter cannot escape legal punishment,
so I also felt weak sometimes.
Now I am in jail, with mixed feelings, and only
left with the rest of my life to spend.”

Zhang Jian, researcher on China issues, says that
Bo’s statement proves Zhang’s earlier speculation.
That is, the CCP would not sentence Bo to death.

According to Zhang Jian, non-death penalty is equivalent
to giving Bo chances to stage a comeback.

Zhang Jian: “As long as he is alive, and has his political
resources, his political allies and followers, he could make a comeback one day.”

Commentator Wang Beiji thinks it would be rather
difficult for Bo to re-emerge.
The CCP authorities have covered up Bo’s felonies, whilst
some relevant information have been exposed during the trial.
He says that the information has drawn public attention
and promoted speculation.

On the first day of Bo’s trial, China’s largest search
engine Baidu unblocked access to some reports.
These were truth-telling websites related to
“Bo Xilai and (live) organ harvesting.”

Wang Beiji remarks that two issues have been
foreshadowed in the CCP’s prosecution against Bo.
One is Bo Xilai’s embezzlement of 5 million yuan
from a secret project fund, which was used
for family expenses.
But what was this secret project fund for?

Wang Beiji: “Let’s look back on the past 10 years,

on what things the CCP had accessed to unchecked
spending, arresting and holding trials?
The top one was its persecution of Falun Gong.

In my view, this five million yuan was very likely to be
a small part of a project fund used for repressing Falun Gong.”

Jiang Zemin, former CCP leader, openly launched
persecution against Falun Gong in 1999.
Since then, Bo Xilai has reportedly followed Jiang
in the crackdown.
Under Jiang’s approval and financial support,
Bo has expanded many prisons in Dalian.
A great number of Falun Gong practitioners were
shipped to Dalian and put in jail.

Another foreshadowing, according to Wang Beiji,

was £14 million demanded by Neil Heywood
as intermediary fees on a project, from Bo Guagua.
Wang Beiji says that the CCP dared not to make clear
the project, which suggests some hidden secrets.

Wang Beiji: “Bo Xilai’s involvement in Dalian’s
corpse-processing business and live organ harvesting
in Liaoning, have been exposed.
Making profits by killing innocent people and trafficking
their bodies, is consistent with Bo’s brutality and daredevil nature.
Besides exporting the bodies abroad, and marketing
organ transplantation business overseas,
Bo needed foreigners’ participation in his many other
operations abroad, including money laundering.”

Wang Beiji indicates that Bo’s trial is just a process.
The core issue is the survival of the CCP.
This is because that once Bo’s felonies are made public,
the liabilities will eventually fall on the CCP.

Since 2004, Bo Xilai has been sued in 12 countries
by human rights organizations and Falun Gong practitioners.
He has been accused of genocide,
crimes against humanity and of torture.
