International Attention on Jiansanjiang, Lawyers Want Investigation

Public protests have been triggered by the case of four lawyers
illegally detained by police in Jiansanjiang, Heilongjiang Province.
It has also become an issue of concern for
the international community and human rights organizations.
Amnesty International (AI) strongly condemns the police’s
thuggishly beating and detaining the lawyers.
A group of lawyers defending Falun Gong practitioners
is requesting Xi Jinping, leader of the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP), to investigate and punish
those who had been involved in the persecution.

Falun Gong spokesman Erping Zhang says Jiansanjiang police’s
actions of beating the four lawyers defending for Falun Gong
practitioners, and illegally arresting and severely torturing
Falun Gong practitioners, has aroused international responses.

Zhang Erping: “Many lawyers groups, activists, professors,
and international human rights groups are expressing concern.
People in Mainland China from all walks of life
are also bravely speaking out.
They showed support for Falun Gong’s human rights."

On March 21, the police in Nongken Management Bureau
in Jiansanjiang illegally arrested seven Falun Gong
practitioners and their four defense lawyers.
Brutal beatings from police, at least three of the detainees
were hospitalized and in critical condition.

Over the past ten days, many lawyers and citizens have
voluntarily formed the “Group to Rescue Missing Citizens".
They went to Jiansanjiang to request
the release of the detainees.
Although the local police have arrested, beaten
and deported them, lawyers and citizens from many cities
are continuing to go onsite to give support.

On April 1, the Falun Gong Human Rights Lawyers Group
issued a statement requesting Xi Jinping to investigate
and punish those who implemented the persecution.
They also expressed support of the Group to Rescue
Missing Citizens movement in Mainland China.

On March 31, Beijing lawyer Chen Jiangang went online
to urge lawyers to join the support.
Chen says in light of Jiansanjiang police acting like the mafia,
the condition of going to support is “not fearing death";
Guangdong lawyer Ge Yongxi echoed that message, saying
that even fearing death, people must still push forward.

Dozens of lawyers and scholars also wrote to the police ministry.
They want for the illegal behaviors of the Jiansanjiang police
to immediate stop, for lawyers’ right to visit ensured,
and for the regime to immediately investigate
the Jiansanjiang black jail.

AI has also issued a statement condemning the incident.
AI is particularly concerned about lawyer Zhang Junjie having
been beaten, and the safety of three detained lawyers.

On April 1, the regime issued a response to the incident
for the first time.
It slandered the four lawyers as having incited
38 Falun Gong practitioners and their families members
to “gather crowds to make trouble".

The regime’s response provoked public outcry.

Jiansanjiang then become famous overnight,
and the next morning, the word “Jiansanjiang"
became the second top keyword on Chinese search engines.

Teresa Chu, spokesperson of the Falun Gong Human Rights
Lawyers Working Group says that now the European Union,
the European Parliament, the U.S. Department of State, Taiwan,
Hong Kong, Japan and other lawyers groups
have been aware of the brutal actions of Jiansanjiang police.

Tereasa Chu: “Now, groups of lawyers and medical experts
from Taiwan are going to Europe to clarify the truth about
live organ harvesting to the EU and European Parliament.
Meanwhile they will speak out on the brutal torture that
continues to be used on Falun Gong practitioners and lawyers."

The Falun Dafa Information Center has notified the U.S. State
Department that the violent acts of Jiansanjiang police
have breached the International Bill of Human Rights.

Tereasa Chu: “We hope the European Parliament, and the U.S.
Congress and Department of State will accept our request of
support, and continue to condemn the Chinese regime’s use of
the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee to break the law,
and deprive the rights of Falun Gong practitioners and lawyers.
The CCP must be made to answer for this."

Tereasa Chu says that if the persecution doesn’t stop,
lawyer groups will stage worldwide action.

Tereasa Chu: “We also hope that in China, all supporting groups
including lawyer groups and individuals can communicate with us,
to tell us updates on the status of defense lawyers and Falun Gong
practitioners illegally detained in each city.
We will carry on overseas’ support until the persecution ends."

The Falun Gong lawyers group has sued 50 CCP officials
in 30 countries, accusing them of nearly 60 crimes.
Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Li Lanqing, Bo Xilai
and Zhou Yongkang are included among the accused officials.

On March 30, New York based World Organization to
Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong
issued a statement on the Jiansanjiang incident.

The organization warns that if key persecutors and participants
involved in the Jiansanjiang incident do not stop,
they will become the defendants in the grand trial in the future.
