Chinese Medical Mafia Members Now At High Risk

In recent years, more and more violent incidents such as
family members of patients stabbing doctors happening in China.
Security measures at hospitals are needing to be stepped up..

Most of the public blame the doctor-patient conflicts
on the low morality of doctors.
How did the once highly respected profession since ancient times
become such a high-risk occupation in today’s China?

In April 2014, a deceived patient of the outpatient department
of a county hospital in Jiangsu Province stabbed his doctors to death.
In March, one patient in Harbin also killed a doctor
and injured three people due to doctor-patient disputes.

Media reported 13 cases of doctors being stabbed in 2013.

In October 2013, three doctors were injured by patients at
Wenling City, Zhejiang Province, a director was killed.
In November 2013, a deputy director of the hospital
surgical department in Sanshui City, Guangdong Province
was attacked and incurred head injury.

In May 2013, a cardiovascular surgeon at Wuhan Fifth Hospital
was stabbed in the back by a patient’s family.

In 2007, doctor-patient disputes led to social conflicts at
Chenzhou City of Hunan Province.
The authorities sent armed police and arrested dozens of people.

In Guangzhou, many hospitals maintain their own black list
and doctors even bring knives.

So what has caused such a conflicted doctor-patient relationship?

Dalian Central Hospital head nurse Wang Chunying:
“The use of multiple antibiotics simultaneously easily
leads to drug resistance and bacterial cross-infection.

But doctors benefit from it. They get commission.

They try their best to use imported antibiotic brands,
as these are more expensive. So they get more commission.
Also, the more money a patient gives the doctor in the
“Red Envelope,” the earlier the operation will be scheduled,
and the patient can decide which doctor does the operation.

Doctors get commission from Pharmacies and hospitals.
Their grey income greatly exceeded their wages."

Commentators pointed out that since the 90s
when China carried out hospital industrialization,
hospital charges increased at more than 20% each year.

Medical practitioners got rich quickly.

Medical expenses skyrocketed. It is a common phenomenon that
the poor cannot afford medical treatment.

In October 2013, a man from Baoding City, Hebei Province
spent all his savings, but his disease was not cured.
He endured great pain and bit off three teeth.
He sawed off his problem leg with a steel saw.

Evil hearted doctors also scam money to make fake diagnosis.
Even organ theft of patients is not uncommon.
In 2012, the kidney of a male patient from
Yueyang City, Hunan Province was stolen by the doctor
during his spleen surgery.

Another example is the obstetricians from
Fuping City, Shaa’nxi Province stealing and selling babies
for eight years before it was uncovered.

Assistant professor He Mai of the Department of Pathology And
Laboratory Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine;
“Other countries provide grants to support hospitals in
order to help people.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) does not give money to hospitals.
It lets hospitals make money from people.
For the people, the cost of medical treatment is very high.

Doctors complain that patients do not respect doctors,
but patient think that hospitals only focus on making profit.
It has led to a very intense relationship.

I think this is the issue of the system and government.
Both doctors and patients are victims."

China’s columnist Chen Gefei wrote,
“Humanitarian and Saving-Lives” have disappeared in China.
Medical practice has become the dirtiest and
the most immoral industry in today’s China.

Commentator Chen Minghui: “It appears that
industrialization of education and medical treatment
are ways to make money.

Actually it uses this way to develop its team and
to train a huge and corrupt system.
It is easy to control when all the members areinvolved in crimes.
These people will follow its policy steadfastly.”

Former Shanxi Disease Control Center official Chen Taoan:
“The environment is made by the country,
If a society punishes the good and rewards the evil,
then doctors become bad.
Many hospitals encourage doctor to maximize
prescriptions to deceive patients.
It will lead to the deterioration of the doctor-patient relationship.
It rewards the evil and punishes good people, right?"

China’s People’s Daily once reported that a three-year old child
from Urumqi who was scalded with boiling water
died after four hospitals refused to provide treatment with the parents
running around for four hours.
