Li Keqiang Signs Deals But Meets Protests on UK Visit

On June 19, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang ended UK visit
and headed to Greece.

Although Beijing has sealed trading deals worth $30 billion
during Li’s visit, voices criticizing China’s human rights
abuses were heard wherever he went.

The voices came from UK’s Deputy Prime Minister (PM),
several mainstream media, Chinese protest groups, Uyghurs,
Vietnamese and British people.

Li Keqiang was received by UK’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Observers say that China and the UK were reportedly
expected to sign deals worth more than $30 billion after
Beijing has won back enough face in the world.

Meanwhile various groups and individuals spoke out in the UK
and condemned China’s human rights abuses.

UK Deputy PM Nick Clegg said at his monthly press
conference that large scale, systematic human rights abuses
and widespread use of the death penalty
still continue in China to this day.

Clegg stated that Chinese people are “shackled” to a one-party
communist regime that is the “antithesis” of a democratic society.

Western mainstream media also published reports.

The Independent newspaper analyzed British and China’s
trading and economic strength,
also saying that the UK is not going “cap in hand” to Beijing.
The relations between the two nations are based on
clear, mutual, economic interest.

Chinese activist Ou Biaofeng: “I think in any society,
as long as progress is made towards the development
of a civilization generally, human rights, the rule of law
and universal values cannot be violated.

This time China gives away billions of ‘economic cake’, but
is still criticized by the public including UK Deputy PM.”

Several protest groups followed Li Keqiang in the UK,
including democrats of June 4, Hong Kong people,
Tibetans, Uyghurs and Falun Gong practitioners.
British and Vietnamese also participated in the protest.

Tibetan protesters demonstrated with handcuffs, exposing
the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) brutal suppression of Tibet.

British-Hong Kong people held placards worded
“Hong Kong’s future, Hong Kong people decide”.

Falun Gong group’s banners say “Bring Jiang Zemin, Lu Gan,
Liu Jing, Zhou Yongkang to Justice”,
“15 Years of Persecution of Falun Gong In China- End it Now!”

People have signed the petition calling for “end the organ
harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners”.

China-based activist lawyer Li Xiangyang: “The CCP regime
used all the means, the $30 billion deals likely
become open bribery and tricks.
However, the public, British officials can see it clearly,

They seem not to appreciate this disgraceful behavior.”

Protester Michael Perrott says that it was wrong to consider
money more important than human rights.

Li Xiangyang: “Only by implementing a multi-party system,
can China be recognized and respected in the world.

In order to maintain its short term interests,
it is impossible for the CCP to carry out political reform,
or resume freedom of expression and publication to its people.

People in the world can see through their evil nature,
thus protests from all walks of life have taken place.”

The CCP again played its common tricks, stressing that a
right to live is above human rights.

Ou Biaofeng: “It is ridiculous! Very nonsense! Chinese
people neither have freedom of expression nor have right of vote.

Is only having food to survive enough? The CCP classifies
human rights a right of survival, it is ridiculous!

Human rights not only refers to right to survive, but also
has its dignity, and spiritual aspects.”

Ou Biaofeng also observes that the CCP’s social system
is the reason why people cannot enjoy their rights.

Ou Biaofeng: “There is no human rights protection under
totalitarian rule, the regime can arbitrarily arrest, detain and
threaten its citizens at will.

People in that totalitarian society have no real human rights,
People’s spirits are distorted.”

It is noticeable that Chinese officials didn’t arrange
for Li Keqiang to meet with Nick Clegg.

UK officially sent Hugo Swire, Minister of State at the
Foreign Office, who has long been concerned with China’s
human rights abuses, to welcome Li at the airport.

In the past, Swire has shown his concerns regarding
Tibetan self-immolations, he also showed his support of
Hong Kong’s democratic election in writing.
