China and Russia Celebrate World War II Victory, Anti-
Japanese Sovereignty Controversy Arises Again.

2015 is the 70th anniversary of the anti-Japanese war.
Now World War II (WWII) has become a hot topic.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Foreign Ministry
spokesman said that China and Russia will arrange for
the two leaders to attend relevant mutual celebrations
and commemorations held by each other.
The topic of cross-strait dominance of the anti-Japanese
war brought controversy back again.
Some scholars believe that the CCP is doing this only to
legitimize its actions in the dominance of the war.

Recently, Mainland China’s hot topic was the internment of
the famous anti-Japanese general Zhang Lingfu’s remains.
Most people expressed respect and the memory of Lingfu’s
“trouncing the Japanese exploits shone through."
However, CCP media published several articles in a row,
meaning Zhang Lingfu is not a famous general.
He was defeated by the CCP.

In this regard, Zhang Daoyu, the son of Zhang Lingfu,
expressed outrage. Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense also
responded that it is not difficult to see that there is still
resistance within the CCP’s anti-historical facts force.
The Department of Defense said the victory of the anti-
Japanese war was by the Republic of China Armed Forces
(Taiwan Armed Forces), which “Cannot be altered or
obliterated," appealing to the CCP to honestly face up to it.

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry spokesman Luo Shaohe was
interviewed by Voice of America.
He said, he could not accept mainland China official media
saying his speech about the 70th anniversary victory of the
anti-Japanese war was an “emotional" involvement in
mainland China’s interior ideology.
Luo Shaohe said that what he fought for
was the importance of historical truth.

So, the anti-Japanese sovereignty disputes across the
Taiwan Strait once again became a hot topic.

Former history professor from China who lives in the U.S.,
Liu Yinquan, “During WWII, the Chinese government was
the national government, its ruling party was Kuomintang,
its supreme leader was Chiang Kai-shek.
The CCP just talks. If they were active in the anti-Japanese
effort, how many Japanese were eliminated?
They could not get a decent figure. How many people were
sacrificed?
They could not get any numbers either,
so it is difficult to convince anyone."

Professor of political science at National Taiwan University,
Ming Juzheng,"On September 9, 1945, the Japanese army
surrendered, to whom? Did they surrender to the CCP or
the national government?
Last, where did the surrender take place? It was in the
Republic of China, which is now in Taipei.
So it is very clear who owns the dominance in
the anti-Japanese war."

Ming Juzheng said that, former CCP leader Mao Zedong
very early on stated in the party that the guideline was
10 percent war resistance, 20 percent coping with the war
and 70 percent development.

Ming Juzheng, “Mao said when the war against Japan
started, relationships between the Kuomintang, the CCP
and the Japanese were as three countries. He fully played
this trilateral relationship, and profited from it.
Mao’s purpose was to push to the Kuomintang army
to the front to battle, and to consume the military.
Then he shouted at the back of the war to win the
reputation of resistance of the war.
Eventually Mao took advantage of this opportunity to
weaken or even wipe out the national army.
He then expanded himself to seize power. “

On Jan. 23, CCP Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua
Chunying in Beijing, said this year is the 70th anniversary
of the victory over fascism, and also the 70th anniversary
of the victory of the Chinese People’s Anti-Japanese War.
China and Russia as the two main battlefields in WWII
will jointly organize a series of celebrations.
These will include arrangements for the two leaders to
attend each other’s relevant mutual celebrations.

However, according to Voice of America, many Russian
scholars believe that the Soviet Union’s collaboration with
China during WWII was mainly the Kuomintang government.

The Soviet Union gave major assistance to the Kuomintang
government during the Japanese invasion in WW II.
It was because the Soviet Union regarded the Kuomintang
government as the legitimate government of China.

Ming Juzheng, " The Soviet Union gave the Kuomintang
resources not because they love China.
Their aim was to use China as a watchdog, because if China
surrendered, then immediately the Japanese would fight the
Soviet Union. In order to prevent themselves from being hit
by Japan, the Soviet Union helped China resist."

But Russia and Poland diplomats also bickered about the
70th anniversary commemoration of the end of WW II.
Poland believes they should have the commemoration in
the outbreak place of WW II – near Gdansk.
This also worsened the Russian and Polish relations
during in the Ukraine crisis.

China and Russia’s deliberated gathering, is noted by
Taiwan’s “Udn.com" quoting observers’ analysts who
believe that Russia is facing sanctions from the U.S.-led
Western forces using petroleum and the Ukraine.
China is surrounded by the U.S. and the allies about the
issues of the East China Sea and South China Sea.
Sino-Russian cooperation has its inevitability, but how
far it can go remains to be seen.
