Liu Tienan Rumours Become Facts

Mainland Chinese state media reported that Liu Tienan,
former director of the National Energy Bureau and Deputy
Director of National Development and Reform Commission,
is currently being investigated for serious violations.
Six months ago, Luo Changping, the deputy editor of the
Mainland “Finance" magazine, reported on Liu Tienan.
However, the Energy Board claimed
the news about Liu was a “rumor".
Netizens now find it interesting that
rumors have turned into facts.

Over the past six months, the stories about
Liu Tienan have been filled with ups and downs.

On December 6, 2012, Liu Tienan was reported
by Luo Changping for suspected fake education,
illegally dealing with businessman Ni Ritao.

Liu Tienan was involved in fraud overseas, and his
wife and son both owned shares of Ni’s enterprise.
Liu’ position and dealing with
banks has involved public interests.
Liu met his lover Xu in Japan, and helped her to find jobs.

Due to a conflict of interest, now they are separated.
Xu has received death threats repeatedly from Liu.

At the beginning, the Energy Bureau information office
told the media that these charges were slanderous.
It claimed that they were reporting the matter to the
police, and would take formal legal action to deal with it
It is understood that Luo Changping was subject to
monitoring, and mental pressure because of his reporting.
On January 30 2012, Luo Changping said on
his blog that Liu was under criminal investigation.

During the “two sessions" this year, the National Energy
Board merged with Electricity Regulatory Commission.
On March 18, Luo Changping reported on his blog
that Liu Tienan was dismissed as Energy Secretary.
On the evening of May 12, Xinhua News
said that Liu Tienan was accused of serious
violations and was now under investigation.
Luo Changping published a detailed story
of how Liu Tienan was being investigated.
Investment advisor Zheng Zhiyao said evidence
has again and again turned rumors into facts.

Zheng Zhiyao: “What era is this? Someone said on a blog;
don’t believe the government but believe public opinion.
Don’t believe the news media, but believe micro-blogs.
Don’t believe official declarations, but believe rumors.
Don’t believe mainstream media,
but believe your own judgment.
China has entered into the era of ‘I don’t believe.’

The era of relying on lies, promises and
propaganda to deceive the public is over.
This also shows that the entire credibility
of the regime is disappearing, day by day.”

Zheng Zhi Yao believes that the Supervision Bureau
is incapable of carrying out an anti-corruption campaign.
Anti-corruption is now carried out
by mistresses and microbloggers.
The Chinese regime’s self-monitoring
and constraints are ridiculous.
Wang Zang, a pioneering Mainland
poet and freelance writer commented.
The internet and public opinion have brought more
enthusiasm for people to participate in public affairs.

Wang Zang: “This is the microblog era, and netizens are
helping each other to break through the fear in their hearts.
They use their real names to report wrong doers,
in order to fulfill their responsibilities as citizens.”

Soon after rumors started, the Central
Discipline Inspection Commission officially
launched an investigation of Tie-Nan Liu, and
asked for the cooperation of the Energy Bureau.
In 2013, Liu’s wife and son were also being investigated.
Liu Tienan was in a state of mental collapse.
On May 11, Liu was taken away during the
Development and Reform Commission meeting.
The next day, Xinhua News Agency released the news.

Mainland media reports said that the commission
will investigate Tie-Nan Liu’ violations.
This involves disciplinary offenses of
project approvals during his tenure.
Recently, media reported that the Dong Hua
project, costing 7.4 billion yuan, was far too costly.
The project approval process was
in violation of state requirements.
It is understood that the Dong Hua project’s
approval had something to do with Liu Tienan.

Dong Hua involved in UHV AC transmission projects,
and many experts believe these are not necessary.
Furthermore, there would be hidden security issues.
However, objections only slowed down the pace.
Dong Hua eventually was approved for
two UHA AC projects by the Energy Bureau.
