CCP’s Bitter and Sad Response to Obama’s Asia Trip

As U.S. President Barack Obama’s trip to four Asia countries
just ended, China and Russia announced their intention
to hold joint naval
exercises in the East China Sea later this month.
This is seen as a reaction of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
to what Obama had reiterated about the Diaoyu Islands falling within
the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United
States and Japan.
The CCP Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang’s comment
about Obama’s trip bypassing China was believed to be quite sad and
bitter like a miserable lover.

The following is our report.

On April 30, the CCP’s Defense Ministry announced that it plans to
hold joint naval drills with Russia in the East China Sea later
this month, where the disputed Diaoyu Islands are.

Earlier, Obama had just toured in four Asian countries – Japan,
Korea, Malaysia and Philippines.
In Japan, Obama had publicly expressed that the Diaoyu Islands
belong to the scope of the US-Japan Security Treaty.

Wu Fan, political commentator: “The support to Japan is to
prevent military confrontation from China.
The United States is warning the CCP not to react recklessly."

With Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia last March, Xi had hoped to ally
with Russia in the East Asia territory sovereignty.
Political commentator Wu Fan said this year Russian President
Vladimir Putin did not respond to the CCP’s demand but rather
met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Recently, the international condemnation and sanctions of
Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine has brought Russia
to seek the support of the CCP.

The two sides have finally formed a tie.

Wu Fan: “These two are faced with a common enemy, the
United States. However, it serves no good for the CCP to
offend the U.S."

Political Science Professor, the City University of New York,
Xia Ming points out that CCP’s military ambition has ignored
and underestimated Japan and the strategic partnership between
the United States and Japan.

Professor Xia Ming, City University of New York: “The key
allies of the U.S. are Japan and South Korea in Asia, and UK and
Germany in Europe.

In major issues such as the Pacific security, I think the CCP is
likely to make a big mistake underestimating the determination
of the United States on the strategic partnership."

Obama’s four country tour in Asia was believed to promote the U.S.
returning to Asia-Pacific strategy against China.

On April 28, CCP Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said
at a regular press conference: “Whether it [was] to counter China
or not, we will tell based on what the U.S. says and does.
You come or you don’t come, I’m right here.”

Time magazine reported that Qin Gang’s remark was from a
love poem.
Hong Kong’s Ming Pao commented the love poem was filled
with the bitterness and sorrow of a lady.
It was equivalent to referring to the CCP as a concubine of the U.S.

Xia Ming: “This reflects the inner weakness of the CCP.
Claiming to be a rising power, the CCP is indeed extremely weak."

Xia Ming stresses that the CCP is now faced with precarious and
escalating domestic revolt, and the ubiquita
a great power, but in the process of disintegration.
