China’s Plan to Extend Retirement Age Draws Public Ire

Although the CCP authority’s plan to extend
retirement age has been heavily criticized,
the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security
has still called the policy “following the general trend”.
A poll held by the CCP’s mouthpiece media shows that
more than 90% percent of netizens oppose the plan.
There are also numerous online criticisms of the plan.

Analysts remarked that, since there is a great deficit in
China’s pension system,
all plans such as “extending retirement age”,
“extending the age to receive pensions” or
“clearing pension record if failing to pay for three months”
are in fact merely exploiting the Chinese people.

China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security
(MHRSS) recently made an announcement
on whether the retirement age should be extended.

It claimed that “extending the retirement age”
had become an inevitable trend,
hence it would propose a policy of “flexibly extending
the official age to receive pensions” at an appropriate time.

Consequently, people.com.cn, a CCP mouthpiece media,

held a poll on the plan. Until June 12th, 93.3% of over
450,000 netizens voted to oppose the plan.

Retired professor of Shandong University, Sun Wenguang
remarked that, China’s pension system is in great deficit right now;
therefore the plans such as “extending retirement age”,
“extending the age to receive pensions” or
“clearing pension record if failing to pay for three months”,
are nothing but exploiting the Chinese people.

(Sun Wenguang, retired professor of Shandong University)
says:“Any employee should be paid a monthly pension after retirement.
In China it’s the CCP government which manages
pension funds.
As the CCP has financial difficulties now, it is trying to find
some ways to transfer the burden onto the retired.”

Internet writer Jing Chu remarked that, it became hard to
sustain the pension funds which had been lavishly spent by CCP officials;
therefore the CCP has planned to make
Chinese people pay for its corruption.

(Jing Chu, Internet writer) says: ”One of the CCP’s
characteristics is that all its officials are corrupt.
Every official tries to grab money as long as
he/she has some power.
In such a situation the pension funds have almost
completely gone with little left.
Now the CCP tries to make Chinese people pay for it.”

In Mid-March, the director general of CASS Center of
International Social Security Studies said that,
the total amount on Chinese personal pension accounts is
1.9 trillion Yuan, with only 203.9 billion Yuan in them,
which corresponds to a deficit of 1.7 trillion Yuan.

In an earlier report, the World Bank predicted that,

“under the current framework, the deficit of China’s pension
system will accumulate up to 9.15 trillion Yuan between 2001 and 2075.”

Jing Chu remarked that, although many Chinese said “they only
cared about their own benefits instead of political issues”,
in fact they were kept ignorant
when their money had already been taken away.

Currently in China, normal workers or employees have to
pay a monthly fee into the pension system, but government employees don’t.
However, the average pension which government
employees receive after retirement is triple that of normal taxpayers,
although it’s they who have paid every cent
into the pension funds.

Jing Chu said that, it was very hard to find a job in China right
now, with lots of highly educated young people unemployed;
“extending retirement age” would force them to compete
with old people for a job position, which would make the situation even worse.

(Jing Chu, Internet writer) says: “In China, the public ire towards
the CCP and its regime has almost reached its critical point.
In such conditions they still proposed such a plan
to the Chinese people.
I can only say they are destroying themselves
by doing this.”

Sun Wenguang further remarked that, “extending retirement age”
will have a wide impact on the benefits of normal employees;
with the current framework only government employees
benefit from the change;
for normal workers, many of them have mandatorily
retired earlier, however , they cannot receive a pension until the official retirement age;
they will have more trouble in earning a living
if the retirement age is further extended.

To criticize the plan, some netizen wrote a joke which goes:

“Mr. Zhang paid pensions for years, however he got his record
cleared only because he failed to pay for three months;
He paid for another several years and got his record
cleared again for the same reason;
He worked even harder to keep his record
until he turned old and couldn’t work anymore;
however he still didnt have enough years on his record
and had to continue to work;
finally he paid enough for his pensions
but he was ill from overwork ;
at that time, he was told that the age to receive a pension
had been extended;
poor Mr. Zhang passed away before hearing this news.”
