Documentary Supports Detained Wang Lihong

Professor Ai Xiaoming from Zhongshan University’s
Chinese Language Department has made a documentary
in support of human rights activist Wang Lihong
It is called “Sprinkling the Sunlight."
As Wang Lihong’s case has grabbed the attention of people
across China, and they demand her release.
Ai said, “Justice will become brighter than the sunshine,
but it first has to be rooted in the earth."

The documentary, Sprinkling the Sunlight, has shown up on
the Internet recently.
It includes interviews with Wang’s relatives, friends, lawyers
and netizens, who supported her in the film.
Wang Lihong, 56, was born in Beijing and is a citizen journalist,
blog writer, and public service volunteer.
Wang was arrested for her support of three netizens from
Fujian Province, and detained for causing “disturbances."
“You Jingyou is innocent; Wu Huaying is innocent; and
Fan Yanqiong is innocent.
We love you; we support you;
freedom of speech is a legal right.
We need freedom, justice, and righteousness;
they are brighter than sunshine!"
Wang’s lawyer, Liu Xiaoyuan, said,
“Wang is a person of iron,
as she not only investigated the three netizens’ case,
but also investigated similar cases.
Thus, she has set a good example for us.

As her case is considered “sensitive," by many media,
they dare not to report about it."
“What’s most admirable is that she took on this case,
all on her own, so no one else got harmed.
Some Chinese government department heads were aware of
my involvement in the case and requested that I not continue.
Of course, I rejected their request and told them that I didn’t
care because I was the defense lawyer for the three netizens."
Lawyer Liu Xiaoyuan said that the authorities suppress
dissident voices, by “stalking them, subjecting them to
house-arrest, and then finally jailing them.’"

The renowned Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei,
agreed to be interviewed by Prof. Ai Xiaoming.
“Did you expect that Wang Lihong would be arrested?”
Ai Weiwei: “I am not surprised that anyone is arrested,
knowing that whoever consistently deviates
from the CCP’s views, will be arrested."
Wang’s case was brought before the Wenyuhe Court in the
Chaoyang District of Beijing at 9 a.m. on August 12.
Wang Lihong didn’t refuse to plead guilty.

The court announced that the trial was concluded,
and it would choose another day to deliver its verdict.
On the next day, Wang’s son and other supporters
attended the trial, demanding her release.
Several Western diplomats and representatives of the EU
also came in support of Wang.
Zhao Lianhai, known as “father of kidney stone babies,"
came to court after successfully escaping from the guards,
who were sent by the authorities to monitor him.
However, Zhao and many other supporters were stopped
outside the courtroom by the police.

“It is they, who constantly violate the law, as usual.

Evidence of this is all around us, such as police brutality
and forced house demolitions.
Citizens’ basic rights are constantly being ignored.
That is the fact, and that is the truth."
During Wang Lihong’s trial, Chinese petitioners
gathered outside the courthouse to express their grievances.
Sprinkling the Sunlight recounts the story of Wang Lihong,
told through the eyes of key witnesses.
Professor Ai Xiaoming said the name of the documentary
has its roots in a symbolic folk song,
depicting the trials and tribulations of the main actor of
the documentary, as well as other citizens.
He said, “Justice will become brighter than the sunshine,
but it first has to be rooted in the earth."
