Ai Published GT Editors’ Phones
The renown Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is being consistently
discredited by the official media in mainland China.
Now he is fighting back by twittering the phone numbers
of four chief editors’ of Global Times and calling them “leaders of the 50 cent army." People are supportive of Ai and think the phone numbers’
announcement will help more people condemn the editors.
On November 20, Ai Weiwei posted the phone numbers
of Global Times’ key staff on Twitter.
These include the chief editor Hu Xijin, the chief writer
Wang Wen, A/Prof. of Politics and Law University Wu Fatian, and the leftist Si Manan.
Ai accused Global Times and the police of pressuring him
during his detention by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Global Times spared no efforts to discredit him,
which was in conjunction with the police’s interrogation.
His name can not appear in any newspaper
or Sina micro-blog.
Only Global Times has the special power
to carry out a full-time discrediting materials on him.
Wang Ying (Ai Weiwei’s mother): “I think it is not wrong
to publish their phone numbers.
Ai Weiwei does not have any media tools,
and his website and blog are sealed.
This is a media that publishes nonsense all day long,
but does not want to show its phone numbers.
It is too timid and fearful. It is like you can punch others
a hundred times, but do not allow others to hit you even ones.
Whatever Ai Weiwei does is not wrong now. They can say
whatever they want, but if Ai speaks, there will be a problem."
Zhao Lianhai, the father of Jieshi Baobao,
also supports Ai Weiwei’s deed.
Zhao Lianhai: “These people, like Si Manan, in the current
situation are mouthpieces of the authoritarian regime.
So it is necessary to publish some of their information,
as to let more people condemn them."
On November 23 , a reporter called Global Times’
editor Hu Xijin and the other three people.
Only Si Manan’s phone was on,
no one answered the other three’s phones.
But Hu Xijin said he received a lot of text messages
on his microblog and someone kept calling him.
Wu Fatian said on his microblog that he received hundreds
of text messages and more than 300 calls in a few minutes.
In this regard, the former professor of Shandong University,
Sun Wenguang said, if they didn’t do anything wrong, they won’t be afraid of ghosts knocking on their door.
Sun Wenguang: “I added my phone number on every
article I wrote to help others contact me.
For these people, if they didn’t do anything against good
conscience, there is no big problem to let people know their phone numbers."
Earlier Global Times wrote, Ai Weiwei got special protection
from the West and could not change the fact to borrow money and pay back his tax evasion…
On November 22, Global Times published three articles,
both in English and Chinese, criticizing Ai’s phone numbers’ publishing.
One of the articles wrote, Ai Weiwei’s behavior is “another
example of anti-ethical behavior due to political differences."
And it declared that they have never
personally attacked Ai Weiwei.
Sun Wenguang: “Now in mainland China, people who have
the courage to criticize the Chinese government and
dare to criticize the authorities,
will be suppressed by all official media."
Another Global Times’ article slapped Ai Weiwei
with the usual “anti-China" label.
Zhao Lianhai: “To simply explain Ai Weiwei’s case, this is
the official suppression of civil rights, of the fight for freedom and democracy."
Intellectual Ding Dong wrote an article,
which denounced the actions of the Global Times.
He wrote, from their date of birth they obeyed the ideological
demarcation,
gave up their social responsibility and conscience as a media,
and acted as thugs of the interests’ groups.
Ai Weiwei told Voice of America that these newspapers under
the umbrella of People’s Daily vent their private anger, but don’t dare to confront him face to face.
He said: “If you dare we can have a debate?
Or let me publish an article in Global Times?"
Zhao Lianhai called for Hu Xijin, Si Manan and the other
CCP mouthpieces to think about the big picture in China.
He asked them to stop acting against their conscience
and not be of those people that history will condemn.
