Xi Very Defensive On Human Rights

The Chinese regime’s Vice Chairman Xin Jinping
ended his visit to the U.S on Feb 17th.
During Xi’s 5 days trip, Obama administration discussed with
Xi regarding Human Rights, RMB exchange rate,
trade disputes, U.S Asia-Pacific Strategy, Syria and so on.

However, Xi stubbornly defended which is the Chinese
regime’s usual diplomatic way.
Analysts comment, Xi’s visit to the U.S. is a political show,
No real achievements.

Xi Jinping met U.S. House and Senate leaders on the 15th at
Capitol Hill,
regarding issues where U.S-China have conflicting views,
media have reported that Xi “didn’t give any ground”.

Senator John McCain raised questions regarding Tibetan monks
self-immolation, imprisonment of Nobel Peace Price winner,
Syria and other issues, Xi ‘s response was, “We have places
where we have to improve, but the U.S has had many problems in the past.”

Speaker of the House John Boehner stressed that the U.S is
very concerned regarding China’s violations of human rights and freedom of religion,
his office also delivered a letter to Xi regarding the
imprisonment of Beijing human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng.

Obama also mentioned human rights cases while talking to
Mr Xi on Feb 14. Several Congressmen requested that
Obama mention human rights cases including those of
Gao Zhisheng, Guo Quan, Chen Guangcheng, Liu Xianbin, Alimujiang Yimiti and pastor Yang Rongli.
Vice president Joe Biden said,
“Human rights in China continue to deteriorate.”

Xi Jinping’s defense was, “there is no best in human rights
issues, only better.”

When Xi Jinping arrived in Los Angeles on Feb 16,
local Falun Gong practitioners protested in the rain
in front of the Chinese Consulate, protesting the Chinese
regime’s 12 year bloody persecution of Falun Gong.
Local Falun Gong spokesman, UCLA professor Wu Yingnian
refuted Xi Jinping’s defense.

Wu Yingnian said, “With regard to the so called
‘no best, just better, statement’ the way we see it,
in mainland China there are prisons, labor camps,
brainwashing classes, innocent Falun Gong practitioners are
illegally jailed, tortured, even tortured to death,
where is the better? There is only worse!”

World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of
Falun Gong released a report on Feb 16,
Wang Lijun who sought political asylum from the U.S Consulate
last week was involved in live organ harvesting from
Falung Gong practitioners while he was the Chief of
Police at Jinzhou city.

In recent days, where ever Xi went, Falun Gong practitioners,
Tibetans, pro-democracy movement and other groups protested.
On the other side, the Chinese consulate paid Chinese organizations
and Chinese students to welcome him, each participant was paid $50 by the Chinese consulate.

Xi had a meeting with Chinese communities and student
representatives at the Chinese Embassy in Washington.
In Xi’s speech, he quoted Mao Zedong’s words
“You are like the sun at 8 or 9 in the morning”.
On Feb.14, Xi again used quotations from Mao Zedong.

300 more enterprises and trade delegations from China
accompanied Xi’s visit to the US. Purchase orders are up to $27.1 billion.

Regarding US’s pressure on the RMB and trade conflict,
Xi said on Feb.15, that
the key to resolving the Sino-US trade imbalance is the
US’s own economic policies and structural adjustment.
including the removal of the restrictions of China’s
high-tech exportation.

Xi also said that the US should be careful to handle the issue of
China’s core interests, respecting the Sino interests in the Asia-pacific region.
In the meeting, Obama pointed out that the two sides
have areas of tension.

Zhang Weiguo, Chief Editor of Hong Kong’s Trend magazine,
said that Xi’s talk is the CCP’s official speech, this visit is a showcase visit.

Zhang Jianguo, said that “Using the words of the media, it is
for U.S society and the general public to understand him,
in reality he is putting up a show,
there is no way to understand him.
Before the 18th People’s Congress, he wants to use this
publicity to promote himself as the future leader, but this will not have much real influence.”

U.S Columbia University Ph.D in Political Science Li Tianxiao
pointed out that,
the 18th People’s Congress will decide the Communist Party’s
power struggle, and that especially with the Wang Lijun incident,
which is causing a major internal struggle, whether Xi will become
the next leader or whether the CCP will disintegrate altogether,
the U.S needs to keep close watch on the situation.
