Communist Party Constitution Change Weakens Mao Theory

On October 22, the Chinese Communist Party(CCP)’s
Central Committee held a meeting and decided to modify
their Party Constitution during the 18th National Congress,
adding major theoretical perspectives and strategic thinking.
Meanwhile, CCP mouthpiece media made no mention of
Marxism-Leninism or the Mao Zedong Theory.
Only the Deng Xiaoping Theory, the “Three Represents"
and a scientific concept of development were reported.
Analysts believe that this does not mean the CCP
has completely abandoned the Mao Zedong Theory;
its real intention might be to warn privileged leftists.

CCP General Secretary Hu Jintao hosted a meeting
on October 22.
CCP mouthpiece, Xinhua News Agency, reports that
decisions were made to bring the 18th Congress Reports and
a Party Constitution Modification Proposal for discussion
during the CCP’s 7th Plenary Meeting on November 1.

The report does not mention specific contents
to be modified, but emphasizes that
major theoretical perspectives and strategic thinking
from the CCP’s 18th Congress will be added to the Party Constitution.

U.S. Guardian Alliance president Bian Hexiang says, it is
not unexpected for the CCP to modify its party constitution,
since almost each generation of CCP leaders have modified it.

The CCP’s purpose is not to change its principles,
but to add the leaders’ own opinions to build up their feats.

Bian Hexiang: “So, for those who hope the revision of
the Party Constitution might change the route of this party, that is unlikely.
Modifying it will not change the CCP’s basic line of ‘leftism’
nor its so-called ‘socialism’ with China’s national conditions.”

In its recent report, the Xinhua News Agency did not mention
Marxism-Leninism or Mao Zedong Theory, which is rare.

Bian Hexiang: “Removing Mao Zedong Theory absolutely
does not mean that the regime is correcting itself;
the real intention of removing it, is to target the leftists.”

Commentator Lin Zixu says, when the CCP media mentioned
the “guiding principle” it used to include Marxism-Leninism,
Mao Zedong Theory, Den Xiaoping Theory, Jiang Zemin
Theory and Hu Jintao Theory all together.
Not mentioning Marxism-Leninism or Mao Zedong Theory
may be a hint or a signal.

Lin Zixu: “This modification of the Party Constitution
is likely to weaken Marxism-Leninism and the Mao Zedong Theory
in the constitution, and further expand the Hu Jintao Theory.

It is, after all, related to the current volatile political situation;
such an amendment is to further eliminate the leftists who
rely on Mao Zedong Theory, completely eliminate Bo Xilai,
and further pave the way for Xi Jinping’s succession.

The media reports also emphasized that other matters were
discussed during the meeting, but did not disclose any details.

The Voice of America (VOA) quoted related analysis that

these talks were likely on the personnel arrangements of
the 18th Congress and on how to handle the Bo Xilai case.

However, Zeng Dajun, former visiting scholar from
the University of California, thinks differently.

Zeng Dajun: “As far as I see, if the CCP can really
remove Mao Zedong Theory from the Party Constitution,
then Xi Jinping has achieved a considerable breakthrough.

To change the CCP into a ‘socialist party’ or ‘people’s party’
are good ideas, of course, but I do not see any sign of it now.
Even if Xi Jinping would like to make the change,
he faces heavy resistance.”

Lin Zixu also says, no matter how the Party Constitution
is changed, the purpose is to stabilize the CCP regime.
CCP officials remain corrupt, and are relocating their children
and wealth overseas.
Party Constitution modifications will not change China’s
current situation and experts say, it will not help save the CCP from its inevitable collapse.
