Xi Jinping Forced Alliance with Hu Jintao to Stand Against Jiang Zemin

Who is Xi Jinping, the next Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) leader, allied to?
Is he an ally of Jiang Zemin or a partner of Hu Jintao?

As the CCP infighting has intensified,
this question has puzzled the public.
Political observers analyze that the incidents
of Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai forced Xi Jinping to ally with Hu Jintao, and against Jiang Zemin.

On September 22, the BBC reported news about Xi Jinping.

It said that since Xi was selected as the next
CCP leader at the 17th Party Congress in 2007.
The public has widely viewed that Xi kept close relations
with a Shanghai-based faction under Jiang Zemin.
In October 2009, Xi met with German Chancellor
Angela Merkel, and gifted her two books of Jiang Zemin.
The move was widely considered as “rather unusual".

Analysts say the relationship between Xi
and Jiang’s faction are not that simple.
Allegedly, Hu Jintao preferred
Li Keqiang to be his successor.
Li was then-General Secretary of the Central
Secretariat of the Communist Youth League.
Hu’s idea was opposed by Jiang Zemin and Zeng Qinghong.

Zeng Qinghong, a “princeling”, reportedly played a key
part in Xi Jinping being elected as the next CCP leader.

This February, Wang Lijun fell out with Bo Xilai
and fled to the U.S. Consulate to seek refuge.
‘Freebeacon.com’ subsequently revealed that
Wang had exposed secrets to Peter Haymond, the U.S. Consul General in Chengdu.
The secrets included a coup plot made by Zhou Yongkang
and Bo Xilai to block Xi Jinping’s leadership succession.

The BBC reported that Xi Jinping was a supporter
of a Shanghai-based faction, and the “princelings" faction.
The BBC raised doubts over Xi Jinping’s
stance on the CCP’s infighting.
Is Xi an ally of Jiang Zemin, or is he siding with Hu Jintao?

Critic Liu Guohua views Xi Jinping as a central figure
in balancing out the CCP’s internal factions.

Liu Guohua: “Bo Xilai’s case publically exposed
the CCP’s internal conflicts and infighting.
Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang plotted
a coup, targeting to overturn Xi Jinping."

Why did media recently report on Xi Jinping’s background?

Liu Guohua says that the news was intentionally
released by the blood-debt faction under Jiang Zemin.

Liu Guohua: “What’s the biggest change inside the CCP
since the outbreak of the Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai incidents?
That is, Xi Jinping, originally the centrist in the Politburo,
was forced to ally Hu Jintao, to fight against Jiang’s faction."

Earlier on, Xi Jinping was reported to have
joined with Hu Jintao to remove Bo Xilai.

The latest news reports that Bo Xilai might have
his Party membership and governmental post removed.
Liu Guohua says this would be a severe
blow to Jiang’s blood-debt faction.
Now, the last straw for them is the Diaoyu Islands
dispute between China and Japan.

Liu Guohua states that the blood-debt faction
is now making efforts to muddy the issue.
They incited nationwide violent action
of beating, smashing and grabbing.
This is an old tactic used during the Cultural Revolution.
The protestors even held banners of, “we need Bo Xilai”.
Liu Guohua says that this is clear
that there are forces behind the scenes.

Bian Hexiang, US-based Guardian League Chair, thinks
Xi Jinping will not take a tough line after taking office.

Bian Hexiang: “I don’t think the CCP acts solely
on any leader’s character. It is very devious.
It is only driven by strategies that favor its ruling power.

In order words, it may take a tough line as long
as it is conducive to preserving its regime."

Bian Hexiang added that China’s economy
is mired in recession.
Warring with Japan will only speed up the CCP’s collapse.
Thus, Xi Jinping will not take this risk, Bian Hexiang thinks.
