U.S. Ambassador Can’t Afford Five-Star Chinese Hotel

Gary Locke, U.S. Ambassador to China attended
the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).
However, he lived in a four-star hotel near the Forum,
instead of the five-star hotel of the meeting place.
He advisors explained that the suit room prices
of the meeting place were too dear.
It was three times the traveling price regulated
by U.S. government, thus, the ambassador couldn’t stay.
On the other hand, Li Xiaolin, daughter of former Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) Prime Minister Li Peng, attended
the CCP’s two sessions in a famous-branded suit, and spoke
about the thrift of the BFA.
Netizens considered Li Xiaolin’s behavior as offensive.

Mainland netizens thought that the comparisons reflected
differences between a democratic and dictatorial system.

Pan Shiyi, Chairman of the Board in SOHO, disclosed on Weibo
that Gary Locke had arrived at the meeting place of BFA.
Due to the limited expenses allowed by the U.S., Locke stayed
in a cheaper hotel instead of the hotel at the meeting place.
During his stay, Locke told Pan, “Tomorrow I will leave,
if we can solve problems in one day, I won’t stay for 2 days."

When Locke accepted a journalist’s interview from Southern
Metropolis Daily, advisors disclosed that the price of the hotel
supplied by the organization committee of the BFA was too dear.

It was three times over that supplied by U.S. government.
Luo Jiahui refused to stay and chose a cheaper hotel nearby.

A Mainland democratic supporter, En Guang believes Locke
has an honest figure, and is related to the U.S. system.

En Guang, “Locke stands for the U.S. government.
He is on the post.
He has the constraining force of the system, which can be
considered as the rules of conduct.
Of course he has good personal cultivation.
What he does is to do himself.
It is an uncorrupted and efficient government.
He is really serving for the People and the Nation.

Netizens expressed that high levels of CCP controlled the BFA,
which actually was an extravagant and corrupt meeting.
How much has been spent lavishly on traveling abroad fees,
vehicle purchases and running costs, as well as the official
reception fees (three fees), since the establishment of BFA
in February 2001.
Although the number is a secret, seen from the hotel fees over
three instances with the U.S., it infers luxurious expenses.
Wen Jiabao proposed to decrease the three fees on the two
sessions, however, the BFA was still as usual.
So the decline of three fees proposed by CCP was a lie.

According to xkb.com.cn, it was reported on February 21 that
He Lvhua , Director of Judicial Bureau of Long Gang District
in Shenzhen lead a group of 24 people to Shang Hai, Su Zhou,
and Hang Zhou.
They were investigating and traveling for 5 days,
with an average cost of 5800 Yuan.
But only half of the day was used to hold the meetings,
the other days was spent traveling.
They lived in five-star hotels for the whole journey.

However, media previously reported that the average burden
of Chinese on administrative management fees increased
23 times from Year 1986 to Year 2005.

The Chinese administrative fees are two times that of U.S.

En Guang: “For U.S. government, it is an honest government.

It is not like some totalitarian states which can squander
or optionally allocate fees for their own benefit.
The U.S. has law and regulations that have a constraining force,
unlike in China where no force restrains the (CCP) government."

On the opening of the two sessions, Li Xiaolin, daughter of
former prime minister Li Peng , wore a pink suit from famous Italian Brand Emilio Pucci.
Netizens inferred that the suit cost 14000Yuan.

However, Li Xiaolin talked about the thrift of the BFA,
and shared “unhappiness caused by comparisons” with others.
Therefore netizens attacked her offensiveness.

Wang Zhihua, petitioner from Shanghai said CCP officials just
talk about thrift orally.
What they use is plush luxury with money
extracted from civilians.

Wang Zhihua: “Officials ‘money was too much for use;
however, Chinese people bear those days of suffering.
They fire my mother’s house, I petition as I have no money.
The CCP ask me to be thrifty, that’s what I am.
Even if CCP don’t propose thriftiness, I have no money to waste."

En Guang said that the immediate beneficiaries are people like
the daughter of Li Peng, official’s second generations,
the riches second generation and other officials who hold their
power through benefits.
That’s why there are so many petitioners in China.
