Comments: Occupy Central Breeds More Protests

Following the resumed traffic in Mongkok,
Hong Kong Police continue to stay put.
Bailed Scholarism organizer Huang Zhifeng also told
the Hong Kong media the Hong Kong Federation
of Students and Scholarism do not intend to regain Mongkok.

Chinese Communist Party (CCP) media and pro-Beijing
Hong Kong media reported that Occupy Central has failed.
However, commentators said that site-clearing can only
stop this particular protest form, not the protest itself.
Occupy Central, with its many great achievements,
will foster more protests.

On the afternoon of the 27th, regarding his arrest,
Huang Zhifeng, who made bail, told media outside the court
that two men suddenly attacked him from behind
and threw eggs.
Although incidents keep cropping up,
Huang Zhifeng said he would not back down.

Scholarism organizer Huang Feng: “The most important
is we will not lose determination to fight for universal suffrage
and restart the political reform.

It won’t change my determination to continue to stay
overnight in the occupied territories and participate
in the umbrella movement."

After two consecutive nights of the site-clearing conflict,
Mongkok was relatively calm on the night of the 27th.
But there are still a large number of people
walking in the Mong Kok area.
The people gathered close to the holiday pedestrian
precinct theater at Sai Yeung Choi Street to collectively
watch television and shout slogans from time to time
including, “I want true universal suffrage."
They also made the gesture from the Hollywood movie
“The Hunger Games" in protest of violent police clearing.
Additional police were then deployed in the street
to deter people from walking in the road.
In the early morning of the 28th, people gradually dispersed.

Speculation ensued regarding whether HKFS and Scholarism
will upgrade the movement after the fall of Mong Kok.
But Huang Zhifeng said in a radio program on the 28th
that they would not call on the people to occupy Mong Kok
but focus on the demands on the government.

If people have political aspirations, they should go
to the occupied territories in Admiralty and Causeway Bay.
Huang Zhifeng said they want to put pressure
on the government, not people.
They hope that in the future, the movement will minimize
the impact on the people’s livelihood.

CCP People’s Daily subordinate Global Times
and other media, as well as some pro-Hong Kong
media outlets recently reported the Occupy Central
movement is hopeless and has failed.

However, commentators do not think so.

US organization Civil Force chairman Yang Jianli believes
that the site-clear will only end that particular form of protest,
not the protest itself.

Yang Jianli: “We can say the umbrella movement
has made great achievements.
The movement has been formed although the CCP
and the Hong Kong government didn’t make
any concrete concessions.
I believe the umbrella campaign will be replaced
by the diversity occupation forms will last long term.
So it’s totally wrong to say Occupy Central failed."

Independent Chinese commentator Li Shnjian pointed out
that it might be temporary even if the CCP make concessions
to the Occupy Central movement.

There might be another strategy.
Therefore, Occupy Central’s true goal is not short-term.

Li Shanjian: “I think the main purpose of the Occupy Central
is to expose the CCP’s true face to Hong Kong people.
Now not only Hong Kong People, but the international
community, including Chinese people are all watching how
Occupy Central goes and the performance on both sides.
Many of the world’s people have a deeper understanding
of the CCP’s ugly, rogue nature."

Another surprise result of the Occupy Central
movement is that the two month long civil disobedience
in Hong Kong inspired many mainlanders to quit
the CCP related organizations.
Mainland Miao Wei stated on the overseas Epoch Times
regarding quitting the party: “I can’t tolerate it after seeing
the party’s evil regarding Hong Kong peaceful disobedience."

Lai Lingyun said: “I won’t cross the wall without
Occupy Central.
I won’t open my eyes without crossing the wall.
I will be blind my whole life without opening the eyes."

Currently, many people are still at the occupied
territories in Admiralty and Causeway Bay.
Apple Daily quoted statistics by registered social worker
Xiong Baixiang who said that the remaining 2,100 to 2,200
tents in Admiralty reflect the determination
of the occupiers.
