Three China’ Major Media Talk About Reform

On April 23, Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s three major
media Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily and China Youth Daily published together articles on reforms.
The outside world comments that those supporting
the reform within the CCP are getting a chance.
However, “what to reform and how to reform” are key issues.
The concept of “deprioritizing CCP” was raised recently too.

CCP media People’s Daily published a series of three articles,
‘Strive to Push Forward the Reform and Open Door Policy.’
They stated, we “can’t break through the existing obstruction
and difficulties of reform without great courage and grit.”

The headline of Xinhua.net’s evening news on April 23, was
‘Overcome the Growing Pains by Deepening the Reform.’
The article claimed that the reform has entered the
“deep waters zone and the key phase” of its 30 years history.
However, “what to reform and how to reform it”
are the most important issues to address.

In addition, China Youth Daily published an article titled,
‘Developing A Scientific Concept of The Reform.’
It elaborated on China’s reform from four aspects:
Value of Reform, Main Subject of Reform, Method of Reform and Dialectics of Reform.

Liu Yinquang (Chairman, China’s Social Democratic Party):
“Currently there are two groups obstructing the reform.
They are the Maoist and those with vested interests.
The two factions collaborate and oppose the reform.
As we know, the Premier Wen supports the reform,
thus the two factions unite and fight against Wen Jiabao.
Vested interests groups are in the team of Zhou Yongkang.

Extreme leftists are Bo Xilai, Kong Qingdong and Sima Nan.
They formed a force to attack the reformers.”

In fact, as early as February 23, People’s Daily published
an article titled, ‘Better Criticism than Crisis.’
The article says that imperfect reform is better
than “crisis as a result of no reform.”
This message has caused heated discussions
among people from all walks of life.

Wen Jiabao raised many times the issue of China must reform,
otherwise it would reach a “dead end.”

At CCP Two Sessions’ press conference this year, he called
upon Chongqing’ City Committee to reflect on “Wang Lijun incident” and criticized Chongqing for “reversing.”
Talking about political reform, Wen Jiabao expressed that
economic reform cannot be complete without a successful political reform.
He stressed that “historic tragedy
like the Cultural Revolution might happen again.”

On April 16, CCP’s Central government magazine Qiushi
published an article of Wen Jiabao.
It was titled “Let Power Rule Under the Sun,”
raising again the issue of the reform in more details.

Liu Yinquan thinks that with Hu Jintao’s support,
Wen keeps raising the issue of “political reform.”
However, he has encountered numerous obstructions.
If he does not handle those opponents strongly, the reform will end prematurely.

Liu Yinquan: “Those with severe crimes like Bo Xilai
and Zhou Yongkang must be eliminated.
After validating their crimes, such as Bo Xilai’s $6 billion
corruption and murders, Bo should be trialed publicly and executed immediately.”

Commentators think Hu and Wen must get Bo for trying
to coup against them with the help of the Political and Legislative Committee.
Otherwise they will not only be singled out as direct cause
of CCP’s collapse, but their supporters might also betray them.
Then Hu and Wen face the danger of revenge
by the Jiang’s fraction.

However, experts pointed out that only with the concept
of “deprioritizing CCP” can CCP put people’s interest first,
start a political reform, and have a way out for China.
