Looking for signs of June 4 Vindication

23 years have passed since the June 4 Incident, and the
world’s call for redress has become increasingly louder.
Sources say that Wen Jiabao has already suggested
redressing the June 4 Incident in three secret top-level
meetings, in an effort to start “the political reform” he
has advocated for, but was met with opposition each time.
Also, some media have said that Xi Jinping might redress
June 4 after taking over leadership.
Commentators believe that vindicating June 4, to reveal
the truth, is what people are waiting for.
But so far, there haven’t been any signs of vindication.

Since the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre, people from all over
the world have been commemorating the incident every June 4.
This year witnesses the 23rd anniversary, and the world calls
for the decomposition of the CCP and the redress of the June 4 Incident.
On June 4, Hong Kong held the largest candle light gathering
of recent years, with 180 thousand people, many of them Mainland Chinese.

On May 20, the Financial Times’ (UK) cited information
from top-level CCP that Wen Jiabao has already suggested
redressing the June 4 Incident in three secret top-level
meetings as a way to start “the political reform” he
is advocating for, but he has met opposition each time.

According to Yazhou Zhoukan’s latest report, Xi Jinping,
China’’s next president after the 18th Party Congress,
may redress June 4 Incident 2 to 3 years after he takes over.

Liu Yinquan, Chair of the Social Democratic Party of China,

believes that Wen Jiabao, who had worked with Zhao Ziyang
before, hopes to promote democracy in China through the vindication of the June 4 Incident.

Liu Yinquan: “Wen Jiabao might be the most active
person in redressing June 4, followed by Xi Jinping.
Both of them had positively promoted it, and I believe Hu
Jintao is not against it."

On March 14, Wen Jiabao reiterated at a news conference
after the National People’s Congress that China needs to press
on with both political and economic reforms, especially
the reform of the party and leadership.
Without which, he said, tragedies such as the Cultural
Revolution could still happen.

According to the Central News Agency (Taiwan), Wen’s reform might be
CCP’s official attitude and China may have political reforms,
But it is not the “democratic reform"
expected by the western world.

Meanwhile, some analysis believes that the political reform
China might kick-off may be confined only
to an accountability system such as the supervision of officials
and anti-corruption, but not democracy.

Wang Dan, Tiananmen student leader, told media that there
is still no indication that the CCP will “redress June 4th" in a short period of time.
He believes that the three most significant signs of re-evaluation,
which are allowing overseas exiles to go back to China,
providing funds for the relief of the victims and their families,
and allowing open discussion about June 4, haven’t happened.

Wang Dan said that Chinas society is facing increasing pressure,
and public opinion on microblogs is calling for political reform.
The Beijing authorities will soon take action under this pressure.
He encourages people to take to the streets to impose more pressure.

Jing Chu, independent writer in China, said that those clear
minded members of the top-level party should make a wise choice by using this special social system.
If they keep following the wrong path, China’s society
is hopeless, he expressed.

Jing Chu: “If they are wise enough, they should actively
promote political reform and human rights.
Only by doing so, they might smooth hostility
in the society and have a safe retreat."

Liu Yinquan believes that CCP must be discarded
to completely resolve China’s problems.
He hopes Hu, Wen and Xi, using their current position,
turn China into a democratic country without communism.
