【新唐人2013年05月06日讯】5月4号是“五四运动”纪念日，这一天，中国大陆多地民众为抗议当局漠视污染而走上街头示威。其中云南昆明有大约数千市民成功集结，反对当局修建炼油厂。上海松江区则有数千民众将政府包围，抗议当地建造高污染的电池厂。两地都有大批公安到场戒备，但没有发生大的冲突。
大陆网民发布消息说，云南当局不顾民众反对，坚持批准中石油在昆明安宁兴建PX石化项目，网民因此藉“五四”纪念日发动示威。
4号下午一点半左右，大批昆明市民成功在南屏街昆明百货公司门口聚集，他们戴着印有“昆明不要PX化工厂”字句的口罩，高举标语和横额，以散步形式示威抗议。消息表示，参加人数大约有几千人，但也有网民认为有上万人，而官方则声称只有200人。
据了解，昆明安宁炼油厂位于昆明西郊30多公里的安宁市，项目总投资约185亿元，2010年动工，预计年产成品油780万吨。环保人士认为，该项目将对昆明构成污染，令当地患癌率至少增加4倍。
现场图片显示，示威民众以青年人居多，但男女老幼都有参与。最小的示威者还不到10岁，举着标语“叔叔阿姨给我干净的空气”在广场抗议。
示威者批评当局黑箱作业，没有任何环境评估报告，就开始兴建污染项目。他们呼吁当局：别为了一时的发展，破坏子孙赖以生存的根基！有市民表示，如当局不将项目迁出昆明，将会继续发动全民抗争活动。
当局则出动大批警察到场戒备，一度与民众对峙，最终示威者和平散去。
大陆专栏政论作家朱健国：“没有发生冲突，那就是双方都比较克制。现在属于敏感时期，六四要到了。”
大陆专栏政论作家朱健国分析指出，一方面，民众比较理性，不想发生冲突。另一方面，习李政权想要压制民众抗议，但又不愿搞的太严重，所以没有采用直接的暴力打压。
朱健国：“但这种结果并不能表示这个社会在向良性的方式转化。因为这种问题出现的关键是，习新政上任以后，它是治标不治本，抓的皮毛，抓的表面东西。”
朱健国谈到，习近平并没有去解决造成这些冲突的症结所在。另外，中共体制已经腐朽不堪、积重难返，习近平也没有能力去改变。而现在民众的克制很可能是因为对习李新政还抱有希望，但这种希望迟早会破灭，官民冲突也将会加剧。
时事评论员汪北稷也表示，昆明的群体示威并没有对中共政权构成直接威胁，因此当局没有镇压。但他估计，事后当局一定会对活动的组织者进行迫害抓捕。
时事评论员汪北稷：“中共把人类社会在中国土地上生存下去的水、空气、自然环境、森林全部破坏，全部无一例外的破坏。食物，人生存的底线已经被破坏了。所以它留给人民的就是拿起武器来推翻它。”
同一天，上海松江区也有数千市民游行至政府门前示威，抗议当地兴建一家电池厂污染水源。当局调动数百警察到场，现场气氛紧张。
朱健国：“因为今天的中国（中共）政府有个特点，都变异了，这是以前的政府都没有的。就是所有的每一个人都可以监控到的，这是以前的政府没办法做到的。”
朱健国强调，中共通过电话、网络、手机等对民众进行全方位监控，这也是为什么中共政权到现在还在维持的一个原因。
四川成都民众的上街计划则遭到当局阻止，大批活跃人士连日被拘禁。 4号当天大批军警封锁集会地??点，令成都集会流产。

Mass Protests Of Thousands Held on May 4th
May 4th is the anniversary of the May 4t Movement.
On this day in several regions in China, local people
held protests against local polluting projects.
In Kunming, Yunnan province, thousands of citizens
took to the streets, opposing a local oil refinery plant.
In Shanghai Songjiang district, thousands of people
besieged the city hall to resist a polluting battery plant.
In both cities, large numbers of police arrived at the scene,
however no clash ensued.
China’s netizen released a message, that Yunnan authorities
had approved Petro China’sPX project in Anning, Kunming city.
Local netizens then initiated a protest on May 4th.
On May 4th in Kunming—a large number of
local citizens gathered in public.
They all wore face masks with words:
“No PX Chemical Plant Wanted In Kunming.”
Holding banners and posters, the citizens
protested by talking a walk.
Sources said that about several thousand people
had participated in the protest.
Some netizens estimated that the event involved
over 100,000 people.
Local authorities alleged that
there were only 200 participants.
Reportedly, Anning Oil Refinery Plant is located
in Anning city, 30 km away from Kunming city.
The 18.5-billion-yuan project started in 2010, with an
estimated annual production of 7.8 million tons of refined oil.
Environmentalists believe it is creating pollution.
This may cause local people to have at least a four-fold
increased risk of developing cancers.
Photos show that the masses at the scene were
mostly young people.
Other participants included men, women and children.
The youngest protester, under the age of 10, held a poster
reading “Aunts & Uncles, Please give me clean air.”
The local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were
accused of black-box operations.
No environmental impact assessment was released
before the construction of the project.
The protesters called on local authorities not to pursue the
growth at the expense of the survival of future descendants.
A citizen warned that if the PX project doesn’t leave Kunming,
a more massive protest will be staged.
A large number of police were sent to the scene,
where they confronted the protesters.
Finally, the demonstrators dispersed safely.
(Columnist, China) Zhu Jianguo: “No clash indicates that
both sides were quite restrained.
Now it is during a sensitive period,
the memorial day of June 4th is coming.”
Zhu Jianguo analysed that the protesting citizens were
rational, and didn’t want to clash with the police.
Meanwhile, the Xi-Li administration aimed to suppress
the masses, but didn’t want to overdo it.
Thus, the authorities didn’t put them down
with violence, says Zhu.
Zhu Jianguo: “But the result doesn’t mean that
the society is turning to a good path.
The reason behind the protest was that Xi Jinping has only
treated the symptom, not the underlying problem.”
Zhu Jianguo comments that Xi Jinping hasn’t
sought to solve the crux of these conflicts.
Also, the CCP system has been rotten to the core,
which Xi has no ability to change.
Zhu Jianguo speculates that the civilians’ restraint may be due
to their remaining expectation on the Xi-Li new administration.
But the hope will be dashed sooner or later, he says,
and then the official-civilian clash will be fueled.
Critic Wang Beiji says that the Kunming mass protest
didn’t pose a real threat to the CCP.
That was why no crackdown has occurred.
Yet the organizers will certainly be put on the list
for the authorities’ later punishment, he says.
Wang Beiji: “The CCP has ruined everything in China:
water, air, natural environment, forests, food, basic survival necessities.
So all it has left to the people is an uprising to overthrow it.”
The same day in Shanghai Songjiang District,
thousands of citizens marched to the city hall.
They protested against a local project of battery plant,
which produces pollution to local waters.
Hundreds of police arrived at the scene and
confronted the protesters.
Zhu Jianguo: “The government in today’s China has mutated,
which differs from the previous regimes.
It puts every Chinese person under surveillance,
no previous governments could really do it.”
According to Zhu Jianguo, the CCP monitors Chinese civilians
via telephone, internet, and mobile phones.
Zhu thinks it is one reason that the CCP still exists.
In Sichuan’s Chengdu, the authorities have prevented a
planned mass protest. Lots of activists involved were arrested.
On May 4, a large number of soldiers and police
closed off the venue for the gathering.
