Since the beginning of January, three people have been identified with H5N1 bird flu in Beijing, Shanxi Province and Shandong Province. One of them, a woman in Beijing, has died.
从今年一月起，北京、山西省广东省各发现一位证实 H5N1 禽流感感染的人，在北京受感染的女性已经死亡。
Microbiology Professor Chen Jixiang of Hong Kong Chinese University says the situation is very alarming, primarily because the source of the infections have not yet been identified. None of the locations where people contracted bird flu has had problems with bird flu among their poultry. In the past, the H5N1 virus has primarily been passed from birds to people.
香港中文大学微生物学教授陈吉祥说，这情况具警戒性，因为感染源尚未确定，受感染的人当地并无受感染的家禽。在过去，H5N1病毒主要是由鸟类传染给人类。

“Many experts want to understand if there is some hidden infection that does not have any external symptoms in the ducks or chickens. Or is it possible that this infection has come from a vaccine?
陈吉祥说：“很多专家怀疑是否鸡鸭的感染没有外显的症状，或是感染来自于疫苗？”
Chen Jixiang points out that the bird flu virus is dynamic, changing constantly.
陈吉祥指出禽流感病毒是活动性的，经常改变的。

“This virus can change from slow human-to-human infection to fast human-to-human infection. This change could happen in a very short period of time. It could be that the virus just needs to make a slight change in order to easily transmit between people.”
陈吉祥说：“禽流感病毒可从缓慢的人传人，转变成快速的人传人，这种转变可在极短时间内发生，禽流感病毒可以做一点小改变而在人群中间迅速流传。”
It is flu season in Hong Kong right now. Chen Jixiang knows that it would only be a matter of a bird’s flight or the sale of an infected duck to bring bird flu into Hong Kong. For now, all he can do is hope that Hong Kong remains safe from the virus.
香港现在是流行性感冒流行的季节，陈吉祥知道只要鸟类的飞来或是贩售感染的鸭就可以将禽流感带入香港。现在陈吉祥能做的只是希望香港免于禽流感的感染。
