Smoke was pouring out of an aircraft carrying Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou late on Sunday (November 1). The brakes on the Fokker 50 aircraft overheated after a short flight from the capital Taipei to the central city of Taichung.
日前周日(11月1日)载送台湾总统马英九的专机冒烟。在从首都台北到中部城市台中的短暂飞行后，福克50专机的刹车盘出现温度过热的情形。
President Ma was escorted off the plane in good time. He’s called for a full safety check on the aircraft, which passed inspection in July.
马总统及时被护送下飞机，他要求对飞机做彻底的安全检测，这架专机在7月时通过检查。
[Ma Ying-jeou, Taiwanese President]:
“I’m fine. I was calm at the unexpected event."
[马英九，台湾总统]： “我没事，在这起突发事件中我保持镇定。”
The jet’s brake pads and flattened back wheels had surfaces that melted in the heat.
这座喷射机的刹车来令片和磨平的后轮出现表面因为过热而融化。
[Lei Yu-chi, Air Force Commander]:
“The last repair was conducted on September 28, 2007, and all performances have been normal until yesterday."
[雷玉其，空军指挥司令]： 上次进行维修的时间在2007年9月28日，所有的功能都正常直到昨天。
Military officials say they suspect a simple mechanical failure is to blame.
军方官员表示，他们推测这起事件归因于单纯的机械故障。
