Reds Take Last Stand

Bo Xilai, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
in Chongqing Municipal Council,
launched ‘Singing Red Songs and Eliminating Black Deeds’
campaign in order to run for the Standing Committee
of the National People’s Congress (NPC). Bo faces resistance
from the Hu-Wen faction within the party.
Bo Xilai started all over again recently, coming up with
a so-called ‘Common Prosperity 12 Articles,’
and is supported strongly by Deng Xiaoping’s brother,
Jiang Zemin’s Group, and the ‘princelings’ group,’ in an attempt to restore his power from the defeat.

Xinhua Network reproduced a report from Chongqing Daily
on October 5, stating that Deng Ken, younger brother
to Deng Xiaoping, and former vice mayor of Chongqing,
praised ‘Singing Red Songs and Eliminating Black Deeds,’
and ‘Common Prosperity 12 Articles.’
Deng Ken gave Bo inscriptions not long ago, hoping he
would be strong, and “tough in both hands."

To be “tough in both hands" is the consistent stand
of Deng Xiaoping,
that is, “One hand for reform and opening up, and the other
for beating down various criminal activities."

External analyses show Bo’s attempts to put on a tiger skin
under Deng Xiaoping’s “flag,” and defend his campaigns.
CCP veterans and families, and all other forces including
Deng’s family, have recently all come forward
to influence the personnel arrangements of the 18th NPC.

Zhang Weiguo (Editor-in-chief, HK Trends magazine):
“The election of the 18th NPC is getting closer,
the competition between factions for major roles
is getting more and more intense."

Deng Ken, formerly Deng Xianxiu, is ranked third in his
family. He is 100 years old. He was former Vice Mayor
of Chongqing, Secretary of Wuhan Municipal Committee,
and Deputy Governor of Hubei.

Bo praised Deng’s inscriptions as a masterpiece
and showed that he must use this as guidance,
persisting in the reform and opening-up,
and the four cardinal principles,
being “tough in both hands, while building up socialism
with Chinese characteristics."

Zhang Weiguo: “Bo showed his so-called power
in his campaigns, but on the other hand,
people have become more cautious that Bo may engage
in fascism, and reinforce the Cultural Revolution
and Mao’s line of revolution, once he takes power."

The October issue of Hong Kong’s Open magazine published
the original article of Jiang Weiping,
Director of Beijing Office of HK, Wen Wei Po.
Jiang’s article revealed a message from Beijing,
and Bo went to Beijing in June himself
to promote his ‘Red Songs’ campaign.
His purpose was to force the Hu-Wen group
to recognize his results in the campaign.
Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao and Li Keqiang refused to show up,
many people refused to attend the shows in early June,
afraid of harming their political career.

Beijing sources say that military power is still in firm control
of Hu Jintao. Leaders of the Second Artillery and other units,
have many complaints against Bo Xilai. They think Bo’s
campaigns awoke the ideology of violent revolution,
and intensified contradictions between the rich and the poor,
which is not good for social stability.
Once social unrest develops, the military has to step in.
They do not want to follow the old way of the 6/4 Massacre.

Zhang Weiguo: “There are many current leaders who were
persecuted during the Cultural Revolution,
which is very destructive to Bo Xilai. In the Beidaihe
meeting, a mock election made Bo fall out of consideration."

Jiang Weiping quoted information from Beijing media, Bo’s
‘Red Songs’ campaign is infamous, and Bo had no popularity.
While the 18th NPC is around the corner, Bo is in a panic.
He struggled and hastily threw out at the public
the ‘Common Prosperity 12 Articles,’
receiving support from many advisors
including Su Wei and Li Xiguang.

According to Boxun Network’ inside information,
People’s Daily supports Bo’s ‘Common Prosperity,’
directly against Wang Yang, who is supported by Hu Jintao.
The princelings group got frustrated.
They adjusted their strategy and counterattack,
and supported Bo Xilai again with ‘Common Prosperity’
which attracts people. This is also supported
by Xi Jinping and Zhou Yongkang.

Cheng Xiaonong (Former Director, Integrated Research
Office on Economic Reform of China):
“Bo Xilai’s way will not work. If Xi Jinping adopted
Bo Xilai’s program, China will go back again to Mao’s way,
which is mainly the state-owned economy,
or resume a planned economy.
This failed before,
and China went to Deng’s crony capitalism."

Jiang Weiping quoted sources in Chongqing
that claim Bo himself is corrupted.
The largest projects of Chongqing were sent out as gifts by
Bo and other officials. They took a small piece of the cake,
as to not just cheat the Chinese people, but the whole world.
How can he make out of this a ‘Common Prosperity’?

Boxun network stated that Beijing’s power struggle
is called “the battle between the Blue and the Red Gangs,"
in which ‘Red’ refers to the Red forces offspring, including
Xi Jinping, Bo Xilai, Yu Zhengsheng, and Wang Qishan.
And the ‘Blue’ forces are those outside of the Red faction,
and are led by Hu and Wen.
This has now gone beyond just an internal power struggle,
it is a battle for survival of the red political power.
