God-Father of Firewall Gets Booted Out

Fang Binxing, President of the University of
Posts and Telecommunications in Beijing,
declared in this year’s graduation ceremony, that
due to “health reasons", he is resigning as President.
The so-called “Father of the Great Firewall of China"
has resigned, causing netizens to celebrate.
But observers pointed out that Fang’s resignation was just
a cover for the senior level of the Chinese Communist Party
(CCP) to deal with Bo Xilai, the former CCP secretary
in Chongqing,.
But it does not mean that the CCP will lift the internet
blockade and censorship.

According to University of Posts and
Telecommunications website,
President Fang has handed in his resignation letter
due to his health problem.

53-year-old Fang, had been President of
University of Posts and Telecommunications,
as well as the honorary director of the Computer Network
and Information Security Management Centre.
His main area of research is in Network Security,
Content Security, Internet Technology,
and is the chief designer of a key part of China’s Internet
censorship system- the Great Firewall of China.

Currently the CCP’s political situation is very precarious,
it has been in an internal dogfight within Zhongnanhai.
In the four-day meeting of the Political Bureau of
the CCP’s Central Committee,
General Secretary Xi Jinping ordered the
members to maintain the central authority.
The outside world went abuzz that the senior level were
strife torn. Fang resigned in this sensitive period, which elicited a lot of outside speculation.

Commentator Ren Baiming:
“Fang is a core member of the Bo Xilai case.
For Bo’s Chongqing model, Fang was bought
over as a major scholar.
Now Bo is soon facing a trial,
exposing some hardcore members of the Jiang faction.
Small tigers were gradually being exposed,
leading to the exposure of the big tiger."

Commentator Wang Beiji believes that the
CCP let Fang resign, rather than directly arrest him,
reflecting Xi’s ideas of not denying things
before and after 30 years.
Wang Beiji said, because Bo’s people are all leftists,
if the leftists are completely annihilated, in reality it negates the entire history of the CCP.

Commentator Wang Beiji: “Fang was fired, but it (the CCP)
does not completely dismantle or deny the firewall.
Just like 10 years ago, Chen Xitong was arrested,
he did not deny his criminal acts in the June 4 massacre.
This is the hypocrisy of the CCP. Crimes of Fang, Bo Xilai,
Wang Lijun, and this group are an integral part of the CCP’s crimes.
If you have uncovered a crime, then you should completely
disassociate yourself from the crime, leaving no room for doubt.”

Wang Beiji pointed out, in dealing with Bo Xilai’s followers,
Xi utilized a lateral move, criticisms or review and other mild methods.
Wang Beiji belives that these leftists are sinister, once they
turn on Xi, they will never let up on Xi Jinping.
Xi Jinping did not dare to expel them from the CCP,
leaving them opportunities to re-emerge.

Fang’s resignation attracted cheers from netizens. Netizen
(Jiamesi) believes that Fang always did wicked things. Now the retribution comes!
Another netizen tasks Fang, why do you assist the evil?
You’ll just stench when you get old.

Another netizen wishes sickness will overcome Fang soon.

A netizen said, “He is a professional builder of the Great Wall,

the Great Firewall of China (GFW) imprisoning your freedom of
thought, information and opinions!"

Huang Qi, head of China Skynet Human Rights Centre:
“People are very dissatisfied with the official repression of
the natural flow of public opinion,
and thus pass this dissatisfaction on to Mr. Fang.
It is the main reason that people applauded his resignation.
We believe that the resignation of a person in China today,
does not dismantle the Internet shielding and blocking."

Huang Qi stressed that the firewall is not the
personal project of Fang,
but the inevitable result of the CCP’s dictatorial regime,
Fang is the product of the Chinese Communist regime.
Huang Qi warned others who are still engaged in the firewall,

not to engage in evil violations of human rights,
and suppression of freedom of expression.

On February 9 2013, when Chinese New Year came,
Fang posted on the microblog to celebrate the New Year,
but he was blasted by tens of thousands of netizens’ flames.

Fang received more than 20,000 “go away" replies,
and “go to hell" curses.

As early on as May 19, 2011, when Fang gave a speech
in Wuhan University, he was met with students who threw shoes in protest.
It was rumored that Fang was hit by a shoe,
causing netizens’ cheers.
And neitzens kept on offering a reward for
“re-hitting Fang Binxing".
