【新唐人2014年11月18日讯】香港浸会大学日前举行毕业典礼，有毕业学生撑起黄色雨伞上台，支持真普选，不料却遭到校长陈新滋拒绝颁发证书并驱赶下台，陈新滋还一度中断典礼，要求学生“自重”。浸大学生会随后发出公开信，谴责校长的行径。
据香港《苹果日报》报导，15号早上9点，浸会大学社会科学院举行毕业典礼，一开始奏国歌时就有毕业生在台下撑起黄伞，支持已持续了49天的雨伞运动。但浸大事前已在后台设置安检，毕业生必须交出雨伞，才能上台。
不过，仍有两名学生闯关成功，其中一位是政治及国际关系学一级荣誉生Vincent，他交出了一把黄色长伞，顺利通过安检。上台后，他迅速打开扣在腰间的黄色折叠伞，并走向校长陈新滋，准备领取毕业证书并和校长握手及拍照。
但这时陈新滋一脸错愕，先将证书交给身旁的女职员，然后用手指着Vincent，Vincent随即收起黄伞。据Vincent事后转述，陈新滋还叫他扔掉黄伞，态度极度恶劣，但由于黄伞是向金钟物资站借来的，Vincent拒绝扔掉，陈新滋便拒绝和他握手，并要他下台。另外一名女学生，也成功在台上打开七彩雨伞，但同样遭到陈新滋的“三拒”对待。
香港立法会议员单仲偕：“首先我对学生们在他们的毕业礼上也表达他们对雨伞运动的立场，我是非常鼓舞，我觉得他们是有表达的自由，陈校长拒绝颁发证书，我觉得有点不太好。由学生领导的雨伞运动，对他们来说，是一生以来最重要的运动，我觉得陈校长应该用开放的态度，去看待表达的学生的权利。”
陈新滋随后中断毕业典礼，向到场嘉宾道歉，他指称，毕业典礼是庄严的仪式，台上不应该有任何干扰典礼的事，希望同学“自重”。
香港中文大学政治学副教授马岳：“这位大学校长缺乏包容，事实上，大学都有同样的抗议的行动，但是大部分大学都可以处理得很好，而且事实上，大学校长没有不颁发毕业证书的权力。当天仪式上，那个纸张虽然不是证书，但是表现出来的态度，事实上是很不包容。”
针对陈新滋的言行，浸大学生会16号发出一封公开信，表示他们感到极度错谔和愤慨，信中批评陈新滋破坏校方过往强调的政治中立，打压学生表达政见的自由。公开信还指出，以学生的政治立场否定学生领取学位的资格，是一种霸权手段。
学生会还呼吁，参加17号毕业典礼的同学携带黄伞上台，并拒绝领取由陈新滋校长颁发的证书。
浸大学生会会长陈天俊：“就是回应校长的行为，不让我们同学表达立场自由，以及我们争取真普选的决心。”
据了解，占中运动爆发以来，陈新滋曾表态尊重学生的言论自由，现在却突然变脸，《苹果日报》认为，可能是因为港府上个月底，将一块地皮拨给浸会大学，使得浸大获得合计8万平方呎的土地。陈新滋这次的表现，是表态“报答”政府。
不过，立法会议员单仲偕认为，陈新滋也可能是因为其他理由，而作出这番表态。
单仲偕：“可能是因为雨伞运动拖的时间比较长，越来越多人也希望雨伞运动能够退场，陈校长也可以说变脸，也可以说调整，我估计他从来都是反对雨伞运动的，只是之前没有表达出来。现在要求退场的人多，他就表达出来。”
据《苹果日报》报导，浸大17号的毕业典礼是闭门进行的，从浸大“蒙民伟广场”的直播，可以看到一名硕士毕业生撑一把黄伞上台，在场人士立即报以热烈掌声，但陈新滋仍然拒绝向他颁发证书，并要求他下台。
《法国国际广播电台》指出，香港其他大学对学生手持雨伞上台领取毕业证书，大多处之泰然。如香港科技大学校长陈繁昌，还称赞学生表达方式理性和有创意，岭南大学校长郑国汉也没有介意学生将黄丝带系在他的学袍上。

Baptist University President Criticized For Refusing
Umbrella Holding Graduates
Graduates in support of true universal suffrage held
yellow umbrellas on stage at the Hong Kong
Baptist University (BU) graduation ceremony.
However, President Albert Chan refused
to issue their diplomas.
He forced them to step down in the name of self respect.
The BU student Union subsequently issued an open letter
condemning the president.
According to a Hong Kong Apple Daily report, at 9 a.m. on
Nov. 15, at the start of the national anthem during the Social
Sciences graduation ceremony, graduates held up yellow
umbrellas in support of the 49-day umbrella movement.
However, the pre-setup security was to ensure students
went to the stage without an umbrella.
Despite this, two students were successful.
One is political and international relations freshmen student
Vincent, who passed the security check by handing over
a long yellow umbrella.
Once on stage, he quickly opened a yellow folding umbrella
buckled at his waist and prepared to receive the diploma,
shake hands and take a picture with the principal.
Surprised, Albert Chan gave the certificate to a female staff
member first and pointed to Vincent.
Vincent folded the yellow umbrella immediately.
According to Vincent, Albert Chan also very rudely requested
that he discard the yellow umbrella.
Vincent did not follow orders because the yellow umbrella
was borrowed from Admiralty station;
Albert Chan refused to shake his hand
and asked him to step down.
Another female student also successfully opened
a colorful umbrella on stage.
She was also refused three times by Albert Chan.
Hong Kong Legislator SIN Chung-kai: “First, I encourage
students to express their position regarding
the umbrella movement at graduation ceremony;
they are free to express.
I don’t think it’s good for President Chen
to refuse to issue diplomas.
The umbrella movement led by students
is the most important movement in their life.
I think President Chen should treat it with an open mind."
Albert Chan then interrupted the graduation ceremony
to apologize to the guests.
He alleged that the solemn graduation ceremony
should not experience any interference on stage
and he hopes the students’ maintain self-respect.
Associate Political Science Professor, Chinese University
of Hong Kong, Ma Ngok: “The President lacked
containment because most universities
have the same protest action.
Actually, the President has no right not to issue the diplomas.
Although the paper is not the diploma at the ceremony,
the attitude was very inclusive."
On Nov.16, the BU Student Union issued an open letter
to express extreme surprise and indignation
towards Albert Chan’s words and deeds.
The letter criticized Albert Chan as having undermined
the political neutrality of the school and suppressing
the students’ freedom to express political views.
The open letter also pointed out that it is supremacy to deny
students their diplomas because of their political stances.
The Student Union also called on students who participated
in the 17th graduation ceremony to carry a yellow umbrella
on stage and refuse to receive the diplomas issued
by the President.
BU student Union president Chen Tianjun: “It is in response
to the principal denying our freedom to express.
It also shows our determination to fight
for true universal suffrage."
It is understood that Albert Chan spoke about respecting
the students’ freedom of speech since the outbreak
of Occupy Central, but he suddenly turned hostile.
Apple Daily believes that it might be due to the fact that
the government allocated a piece of land to the Hong Kong
Baptist University, who now owns
a total of 80,000 square feet of land.
Albert Chan’s performance is in an effort
to repay the government.
However, Legislator SIN Chung-kai believes there might
be another reason for Albert Chan’s change.
SIN Chung-kai: “Probably increasingly more people want
the umbrella movement stopped due to its ongoing nature.
President Chen can be said to change face or adjust.
I guess he has always been opposed to the umbrella campaign,
but did not express before.
Now he expressed because more people request an end
to the umbrella movement."
According to Apple Daily report on the Nov. 17, BU’s
graduation ceremony was conducted behind closed doors.
From HKBU Mong Man Wai Plaza live broadcast,
master graduates holding yellow umbrella on stage
can be seen, and the audience immediately responded
with warm applause.
However, Albert Chan still refused to issue a diploma
and asked him to step down.
Radio France Internationale reported that most other
Hong Kong Universities remained unruffled regarding
students receiving their diplomas while holding an umbrella.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
president Tony Chan also praised the students’ rational
and creative expression.
Lingnan University President Leonard Cheng did not
mind students tying yellow ribbons on his school gown.
