Yang Jia’s Death Commemorated

Known as a “police killer”, China’s Yang Jia, still lives
in the hearts of Chinese people over the past three years.
They never forgot his last words, “If some injustice has to be
endured for one’s whole life, then I’d rather break the law.
For everything you’ve done to me, you should give me
an explanation and if you fail to do so, then I’ll give you one.”
Lots of Chinese see Yang Jia as someone who dared to resist
the ruling power, thus they regard him as a hero, a warrior.
Commemorating Yang Jia’s death is an expression of people’s
discontent, it is not the advocation of the use of violence to stop violence.

Three years ago, on November 26, Yang Jia was executed.

In recent days, Chinese netizens launched the third
anniversary event commemorating Yang Jia’s death.

Lawyer Liu Xiaoyuan posted on Twitter:
“Three years ago today, Beijing resident, Yang Jia, was executed in a Shanghai prison.
The case drew attention and reflection from the whole society.
However, the law enforcement organizations of the CCP didn’t learn a lesson,
as their violent enforcement of laws is still very common
across China.
Facing the CCP’s bullying power,
if you don’t give me an explanation, then I’ll give you one.”

In October 2007, when traveling to Shanghai, Yang Jia was
interrogated by police from the Zhabei Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau.
The police questioned Yang has steals behavior, so they
insulting and beating him during the process of interrogation.
Yang lodged appeals several times with the Shanghai police,
without getting any response.

On July 1, 2008, Yang Jia carried a knife into the
Shanghai Public Security Bureau Zhabei Branch and asked for an explanation.
The outcome of his visit was six deaths and five injuries.
Yang Jia was later sentenced to death.

Over the past three years, on each anniversary of
Yang Jia’s death, his cemetery plot was monitored by local police.
They also monitored Yang Jia’s mother, Wang Jingmei,
during her whole mourning process.

Wang Jingmei (Yang Jia’s mother):“They did monitor me.
Their monitoring doesn’t make any sense to me,
for I’ve never done anything illegal.
Many people also want to go there.
There are just so many people who want to see him (Yang Jia),
but some people just don’t let them go there, so these people are not able to pay their respects to my son.”

After Yang Jia was arrested, his mother, Wang Jingmei,
was also put under surveillance of the CCP authorities.
Wang was detained in a mental hospital in Beijing and
prohibited from revealing information to the outside world.
She was also prevented from testifying on Yang Jia’s behalf.

A few days before Yang Jia’s execution, Wang met her son,
telling him, “In mum’s mind, you’re always the best and you are a good citizen, too.”
Yang Jia smiled at his mother. Wang Jingmei did not realize
that was the last smile she’d see on Yang Ji’s face.

Wang Jingmei (Yang Jia’s mother): “Of course, I never wanted
my son to do things the way he did.
But before doing what he did, Yang Jia also went through all of
the proper legal channels and followed all the proper procedures he could.
After being in contact with him for 28 years, I can say that I think
he is an excellent young man with a very positive attitude.
He has always been a very law-abiding citizen.
Just before the incident, he was indeed a good citizen, without a police record.”

In recent years, all across China, the CCP frequently uses
violence to enforce its laws.
Some civilians were beaten by CCP authority officials,
some faced forced home demolitions,
and some were subjected to violent law enforcements at
he hands of the notorious City Urban Administration Enforcement Bureau,
which violently bullies Chinese street peddlers operating
without licenses.
Lack of standardization of the CCP’s public security
organizations, the procurator, and the court, has been experienced not only by Yang Jia, but also by many others.
Lawyer Liu Xiaoyuan says that generally, Chinese netizens’
mourning over Yang Jia does not advocate the use of violence to stop violence.
Instead, they"re using this incident to express their discontent
regarding the unmonitored privileges of the autocracy.

Lawyer Li Tiantian, told NTDTV why he thinks the Chinese
people miss Yang Jia.

Lawyer Li Tiantian: “Except for Yang Jia, no one else
in China seems to really safeguard his own dignity as a human being.
He also did not seek to protect his own personal interests.

Instead, he gave up his life to safeguard human’s dignity
and human rights.
Since very few people in China have had such a fearless view
on things, we all are willing to commemorate him.”

Lawyer Li Tiantian said that the CCP is an unsupervised
autocratic regime which abuses its power and constantly expands, just like a snowball rolling down a hill.

Lawyer Li Tiantian: “Although laws in China are well established,
the system of carrying out these laws with regard to government officials,
is terribly lacking and can be said to be non-existent.
Many official law provisions are invalid.
For example, regarding the penalties handed out to court judges
for their misjudgments, or the police’s poor handling of cases,
or official’s dereliction of public duty, there are no penalty
provisions in these cases. Even if there were, they’d just be for show.”

China’s rights activist, Hu Jun, called upon the CCP’s
public security police to consider why Chinese people are praising and missing Yang Jia?

China’s rights activist, Hu Jun: “Some people went to
Yang Jia’s cemetery to present bouquets of flowers.
That is to say, under the long-term violent rulings of
the CCP authorities,
people expect to see people like Yang Jia,
who have the courage to fight against the CCP evil forces.
So they regard Yang Jia as a Chinese hero or warrior.

This is an expression of Chinese peoples’ feelings,
which may reflect back to how evil the CCP has become so far.”

Netizens compiled words that Yang Jia spoke:
“I have no mental illnesses, but the police at the station do.
I am innocent, while they actually broke the law,
they’re guilty.
Why do these policemen dare do what they do?
Because all of you back them up.
In a country managed by such policemen, a citizen who
abides by the law for over 20 years can even be sentenced to jail.
For anything you’ve done to me, you should give me
an explanation, if you fail to do so, then I’ll give you one.”
