Li Wangyang “Committed Suicide”:
Investigation Demanded.

After the news that June 4 victim Li Wangyang was forced
to “commit suicide" was released,
all circles in society were shocked,
and doubted the act of “committing suicide."
They asked the authorities to investigate
the truth of the circumstances surrounding the death.
They condemned the Chinese Communist authorities
for the cruel persecution of dissidents.

On June 6, Hong Kong media person Beifeng, Beijing
Economic scholar Xia Yeliang and others issued an online
“urgent appeal on the requirements of a serious investigation
into the truth of Li Wangyang’s death.” They are collecting signatures.
By the evening of June 7, the number of signatures
has reached 3100 people, including the famous artist Ai Weiwei, and other scholars and lawyers.
They called for authoritative forensic identification
of the cause of death of Li Wangyang.

At the same time, Hunan pro-democracy activist
Zhou Zhirong initiated a “suicide truth commission."
This has more than 30 people now enrolled.

Peng Yuanzhong from mainland China questioned
Li Wangyang’s suicide due to three points.
Firstly, the previous day, he talked cheerfully
and humorously, and asked his sister to buy a radio
so that he could listen about the situation in Syria.

Secondly, when he was hanged, his legs were
on the ground rather than in the air.
Thirdly, his hand was lightly resting on a hanger,
but the hanger had no significant deformation.
In dying, there was no painful struggle?

On June 7, a number of organizations in Hong Kong
came forward to launch demonstrations and signature activities,
asking the CCP Central Committee
to account for the truth of his death.

According to messages from Zhou Zhirong, Li Wangyang’s
younger sister Liwangling, and her husband, were placed under house arrest in a hotel by Shaoyang city police.
Those who went to visit them were driven away by the police.

Now the hotel is heavily guarded by police,
and the couple’s phone cannot be accessed.
Zhou Zhirong also said that at the same time there
were several local people from Shaoyang city with close relationships to Li Wangyang whom couldn’t be contacted.
Although it is impossible to determine whether these
people have been held in police custody, they certainly have been monitored by the police.

It is understood that the Shaoyang city police accepted
a strict order from a higher level.
They would use high-pressure terror towards
pro-democracy activities and petitioners in Shaoyang city and in Hunan Province.

The number of persons arrested and heavily sentenced
in the Tiananmen Incident was exposed to be the highest.

The case that Hunan-based pro-democracy activist
Li Wangyang died tragically also attracted public attention
from the people who took part in the Tiananmen Incident,
and were heavily sentenced in Hunan.
The data shows the number of arrested people from
the Tiananmen Incident in Hunan is second only to Beijing.

Hong Kong’s “Ming Pao” quotes “The Tiananmen Papers”
by Zhang Liang in 2001, which show that, from June 4th
to 30th in 1989, the total number of arrested persons
due to the Tiananmen Incident in Beijing was 1103.
The number of arrested persons in Hunan was 506,
and another 1327 persons in Hunan received administrative punishment.

Many of the arrested persons in Hunan were
heavily sentenced to more than 10 years in jail.
Among them, Li Weihong was the most heavily sentenced,
with a suspended death sentence for “hooliganism".
Li Weihong was released after being commuted in 2007.

Hu Min was sentenced to life imprisonment for “hooliganism"
and released on bail in 2001.
In addition, Guo Yunqiao was sentenced
to 15 years imprisonment;
Li Wangyang and Zhang Jiangsheng were sentenced
to 13 years imprisonment;
Mao Yuejun and Wang Zhaobo were sentenced
to 12 years imprisonment.

There was another political prisoner
of Tiananmen Incident; Yan Deyun.
He was originally sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.

However, after he was released form prison, the authorities
claimed that he wrestled with and killed a robber.
Later, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
